questions on the National Arbor Day Foundation

Tucson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I joined and for $10 I am supposed to get 10 trees. Now that I am trying to get more trees, it says that it doesn't ship to Arizona (as well as a couple of other states). I sent them an email asking if they are still sending the trees that I am supposed to get for joining up. Haven't heard back from them yet.

Anyone else have any experiences with them?

Had the trees delivered evidently to my driveway because they were run over and mud covered and smashed this spring. Emailed them and they said they would replace them in fall planting time but so far nothing.

They responded to my email:
Dear Joanna,
Yes, you will get a package of ten seedlings that are chosen to grow in your area. These commercial nurseries can ship trees to
your state, but we cannot due to agricultural restrictions. The free trees we send are pre-approved packages.

Please tell them that the National Arbor Day Foundation referred you.

Shipping Cutoff Chart: http://www.arborday.org/trees/tieredCutoff.html
We begin harvesting trees when a frost comes to the nursery in Tennessee which traditionally happened around the 15th of October,
but in recent years, due to climate change, has been happening in early November. We start shipping to northern states first and
work our way south. We try to get your trees to you when the daytime average high is around 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
To check your average daytime high just go to: www.accuweather.com and type in your zip code under "15 Day Forecast". On the page
that loads just click on "Averages and Records" and then at the bottom of that page you may select the month of November or
December, depending on whether you live in the north or the south.
Please plant the tree outside, in the ground as soon as they arrive.

Squidgetz, I have subscribed to their 10 tree offer several times over the years and have never been terribly happy with the trees. The last time was 2 years ago. I need more trees for my windbreak. The 10 included American Redbud, Crateagus, Lilac, and another variety. Of the ten tiny ( I do mean tiny, none over 10 inches) I managed to keep 6 alive so far. I once had them to replace all 10 as none grew. Don't know why I keep subscribing to their offers. Donna

Ouch, thanks for the warning. When(if?)I get my trees, I will pamper them in their pots before planting. I was hoping to put them in the grassy area of my yard since it gets the most love, anyway.

I have had much the same exp. as rutholive. My hubby and I have joined and rejoined over the last few yrs. and have never been satisfied with the size or quality of the trees. I do it to help further their cause of tree conservation but they do send TWIGS and I mean TWIGS!!! And this isn't only on the 10 free offer, either. I ordered about $90.00 of trees from them a few yrs ago and they were little sticks! My hubby was furious that I spent that much for sticks!!! I think only one or two are left. They also shipped them to me in the middle of a hot GA. summer!!!! I don't think I'll ever order from them again.
