Forum switch

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

A couple of days ago I submitted 4 or 5 photos of apple trees ,etc. on Outlook Express forum Trees & Shrubs. Today when I tried to find that forum I had to go to Internet Explorer. Why does a forum get switched like that. I wanted to tell Louisiana Sweet P that i finally got the photos she wanted to see of a mature apple tree. Donna

What do you mean, Donna? Outlook only views e-mails (unless someone's sent a web page as an attachment) and you do have to open Internet Explorer to view anything "live" at Dave's. Can you provide a little more information?

I usually watch DG on Outlook Express because I can see any email messages and look at the forums without going to Internet Explorer. Mostly the forums are the same, but sometimes as I said above, I write in a forum on OE and when i go to look at it again it may not be listed so have to go to IE to find it. Is it just my computer setup?? Donna

This morning my computer couldn't get me on internet on OE so had to go to IE to get on internet, this is at 7:30 am Pacific time. Does that occasionally but usually in the heavier use evening hours. Donna

I do apologize Donna but I'm a bit confused in regards to the problem you are describing.
Are you talking about forums on Daves Garden or another Group Forum like MSN Groups or Yahoo Groups with which you can communicate via E-Mail without actually logging into the Group?
DG Forums, from what I know, do not work that way and thus have to be accessed via the Web Browser and cannot be accessed via the Mail/News program.
You really got me dumbfounded here.
Ooops being forgetfull here. Also Outlook Express or Internet Explorer do not have anything to do with the actual internet connection they just call up the connection which is seperate from them thus no diff if one or the other is used.
What operating system are you using and what Internet connection do you have (DSL, Cable, Dial-up)?

Pan, I am dial-up and Windows 98. I like Dave's Garden best on OE because i can read my emails first. This morning I went to IE because couldn't make connection for internet through OE, maybe because of the time 7:30 am pacific T. The difference in the two versions of DG seem to be this On DG on OE Dave's Garden Newsletter shows covering events dates, Garden Watchdog, Plants added to PDB, etc. This morning lists 51 forums and Trees and Shrubs is listed which it wasn't a couple of days ago.

ON IE Dave's Garden just starts out Welcome Home Donna, 77 forums, then the entire list to choose from. Hope I have made myself clear. Donna

I think I see the light on the end of the tunnel now.
Donna, you are talking about the nightly newsletter which is mailed to you right?

The problem with OE not connecting was most likely a problem with your service providers mail server which can occasionally happen and is not anything specifically related to OE or IE.

One recommendation I can give to You is to change your "About You" "Preferences" "Forums" settings on the Web DG and limit the Forums to the ones you are really interested in.
That way when you log in the list will be limited to those ones (not all 77) and you'll know by the red "Yes" status if there is a new post in these forums. The list will be updated every time you reload it thus you more or less instantly know when there is something new.

I think Panamoncreel hit it on the nose. Rutholive, the newsletter changes every night. (Think of it as an electronic version of your newspaper - every day there are different headlines and pictures.

The newsletter also serves as a way to link to DG becuase it contains hyperlinks to the site. So if you click on an image, or phrases like "Garden Watchdog", "Plants Database", or "Dave's Garden" it will take you to that area of the site.

New and different images are displayed in each night's newsletter, so what you saw in an edition a few days ago will not be in the next day's edition.

And we DO encourage you choose which forums that you really want to watch - it's like having a TV remote that lets you enter your favorite channels, and you don't have to scroll through 500 channels to flip from HGTV to CNN ;o)

Thanks for all your help. I did change my preferences. So tomorrow will see what happens. Donna
