What used to be the top of a large oak tree now sits inverted on the sacristry roof of St George's Episcopal Church here in Southern Maryland. Founded in 1638,it's the oldest Episcopal parish in the state. The current building was erected circa 1740. She's survived a lot in all those years; and she'll recover from this.

Oh, wow -- that's too bad. I bet she has seen many storms and other disasters in her 200+ years here!
It breaks my heart to see the damage there from the storm. I have to tell you, the day the storm was blowing through your neighborhood, I was sitting in my sunny back yard garden here on the Gulf Coast, thanking God this one didn't come our way. (No offense intended) We have had some pretty close calls lately, and I still have some trees recovering from Georges a few years ago. These storms sometimes feel like "Mother Naure" is telling us it is time to re-landscape...
Hello, KMP - welcome to DG. I can't imagine going through storms like that. We have the occasional tornado in Ohio, but nothing widespread like hurricanes produce.
Hey gardenwife, thanks for the welcome. Just posted again on the "Welcome mat"-You all are so friendly! Yes, Hurricanes are a big threat and verry scary to go though..ie.pictures posted. People along the coast just decide to take the risk, I guess, because we love where we live! Thank God for Insurance, huh?
