Jody, that looks just awful. I can't begin to wonder what the clean up will be like. I hope you don't have too too much permanent damage.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

I don't know what to say Jody except that anything me and DH can do to help just holler. We are both so sorry for this devastation and yet so happy that you and your family are safe.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

What a shame, Jody. The important thing is that you're all safe. The material possesions can be replaced. I'm sure you'll bounce right back and your beautiful gardens will hardly skip a beat. When you're ready to replace plants just holler.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Oh Jody, I am so heartbroken for you! It may look as if all your dreams have washed away, but remember, there must be a reason for it somewhere. Perhaps it's to let others give to you, so that you know how touched we have all been by your sharing thru the years?

Have they said when the waters will recede? Praying for you to have the strength to deal with all this.

Vi

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Oh my!!! That is horrible. I am so so sorry Jody. I know the last thing on your mind right now is planting a new garden but next spring when you are ready please let me know as you are welcome to anything I have in my gardens.

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

jody - same here. Any plants or anything I can offer you, they're yours.

Too bad I can't send you a "million-gallon-shop-vac". If I could, I would. It's amost impossible for me to imagine - so much water, that deep. Where will it all go?

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Oh Jody, those pictures are just heartbreaking. I am so sorry.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

We're just heartbroken here. Jody good luck with the clean up. Remember all of us love you and my sentiments are the same as above. All you got to do is holler.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Jody, that is terrible but I am glad you are safe. Will send plants when you are ready.

Ellabell, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm so sorry to see your mess. I'm also sorry that I won't see you at the GA swap.
I hope you will get everything back in order soon, and when ever you need the plants let me know. I'll mail them to you.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Sorry Jody,I am glad you are safe, wish I could help with clean up.

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

Thanks everyone!!! Sure do appreciate the support.

The water has receded, just a real squishy mess now. The yard now is worse than looking at all that water though.

I'm hopeful some of the plants will be ok. It was salty water though and filled with oil, gas and who knows what else and I can't wash/rinse them because the well is contaminated, but some should make it. I'm worried about my fish though. I don't know if any swam off but I found some in the back yard when the water was receding and I put them back into the pond, but the pond water is now "flood" water and no way of changing it. Poor babies!

Ok... ya'll want to giggle at me? You know how them pesky nasty voles were eating all my hostas? Well I rescued one and a mole that were trying to swim in that water, LOL. I just couldn't let them drown, so now they'll be eating my plants again, LOL.

Dea I might take you up on an offer to help when I'm ready to tackle the yard and gardens :) Until then there isn't really anything to help with. We've taken out all the furniture, bedroom carpeting and anything else we could that was wet to let the house start drying but we really can't do anything else (besides clean and disinfect!!!) until the insurance agent gets here. Then we'll start tearing out walls, floors etc and start looking for a good contractor. All insurance co's and agents are just really really busy from Isabel. Hopefully the will be here soon...

Thanks again everyone!!!

Hugs

Jody, there aren't words to express my feelings for you and the others that are in your shoes. I'm just so sorry for your loss.

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh, Jody, dear, I'm so sorry. Do you think you'll lose any of your plants? Any estimate on how long it will take to dry out? Oh, how frustrating.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Jody, these pictures just tore at my heart. I am truly sorry for all that you have lost. I wish we all could come and help you and some others as well.

Oh Jody, really know exactly what you're going through. When Fran hit here, we were without power for three weeks(no generator then)
Spend up to 4 hrs/day hunting for ice. Then the "lookers" come. I'm sure I can't say the words here that we used to describe them! But the power crews were great. And the guys who came from all over the country to deal with rubbish, cut down trees, etc. were exceptional. We had two stay in our house (no rooms anywhere...they were sleeping in their trucks) and these guys worked from 6AM till 8PM for two weeks.
The upside was, next spring things bloomed their heads off in spite of all the salt water. So add me to the list to contact to replenish your garden.
Or if you need to vent, just write.

Jody, these pictures break my heart. Sending you lots of hugs and please post when you're ready for plants!

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Jody this is just so sad! You have allot of work ahead of you. Like everybody else I sure wish I lived closer so I could help ya out. Hang in there!

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

Jody: I just can't hardly believe all the damage that you have got. Such a shame. Very glad that you and your family are fine. You've got quite the job ahead of you. Wished we could all be there to help out.

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

jody i can only try to imagine what you are feeling. know that we are all with you and so are our prayers. God bless

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Jody, I am so sorry for all that terrible flooding. Just hope you can get back to normal before too long. My daughter in Fairfax, VA was really lucky. They had lots of wind but no flooding. Had no water for a day and still now have to boil water. She said no trees blew over but lots of branches to clean up. Again wish I could help you. Donna

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, gosh, Jody - I can't imagine. Praying you have the help and manpower you need to get things done.

Kingston, GA(Zone 7b)

Jody, I feel terrible that you are having to go through all this and for all your losses too. I wish I lived closer to you so I could help you with the clean up. You are in my prayers and thoughts.

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Oh Jody! I am so sorry about all the damage that you suffered but at least you have your lives. As I was reading this thread I was thinking of writing to you "at least the voles might be gone for a while" and then I read that you actually saved one of them!!!!! LOLOLOL Your heart is too kind sometimes, dear lady. That is very funny that you would save a vole after all the hosta damage they have done to you.

Wish I lived closer so we could help with the cleanup. It can get discouraging.

Hugs, Lani

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes and thoughts!!! It really does help! ((((((((()))))))))

Thank you Louisa for the wonderful email and offer of items and help, your a gem! Thank you Lisa for calling and lending moral support. And again thank you to everyone for the thoughts and prayers!

The shock is gone, the house is torn apart and now we can't really do anything until insurance gets here. We are going to appy with FEMA today, then I'm going to try to attempt some clean up of the yard. Most of it is pretty yucky! The first thing I'm going to do is look for a container for my lotus's so maybe I can save them. Course, they'll have to live in contaminated water but hey... most plants are tough, right!

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

Then I'll get out a rake and start on the mess! Some of the items you see floated out of the greenhouse for came from someone elses yard.
