Is it just here or is everyone having massive skeeters? You can't set foot outside unless the sun is shining full blast and that is not happening much. They are even bad when it is cool and dry. My poor four year old really reacts badly to them, covered in welts! Even the bug spray is not helping.
I need a transfusion!!! Darn the mosquitoes!
Darn the mosquitoes! Full speed ahead! WINTER will get 'em!
I sure hope so! It is cool here today, well moreso than normal. Must be leftovers from the hurricane that fizzled out. The wasps and bees are not moving all that fast. One of the darn wasps even landed on my head. I bet I looked cute frantically shaking my head. LOL I have to say it was nice weather for working outside. It is half dark here at 4:30 in the afternoon. Guess I better check for rain. I sure don't want to scoop the better part of 10 cu yds of soil off my driveway if it is all wet. :) Oh, only netted about 30 bites so far today. Better than yesterday!
The miserable bugs have been gone for about three weeks here in northern Ohio. There were days this past summer that I coldn't even be outdoors because they were so thick. I hope they are gone for good now ! Do you suppose Isabel blew some more our way ?
They are here bad too....DH wants to get a fogger but I am concerned it will contaminate my pond......
I think they're just awful here too. Even on a windy day they've been terrible.
they have been awful here all summer. can't walk outside without repellent.
i got them to here. need a glass bubble to go outside in. wow they will carry you off this year. the state has been giving out water repellant thingys to put in water to kill them off with. its a bad year with them.
They don't seem to be as bad here now as they were earlier. REally paranoid right now as Nebraska is #2 in cases of West Nile. A good friend of ours lost her father to West Nile complications. He started out sick on a Sunday and was dead by Friday. He literally "burnt up" as his temperature reached 106.
Not at all bad here....but "we're a dry heat"!! Jo
I get up in the mornings, brush my teeth and slather on repellant.
It isn't helping much.Yesterday, they were especially vicious.
Badseed, find some red cedar oil. Smells like the dickens but keeps the bugs off kids. DS was a bug magnet. They tried to keep him out of the pool at swin lessons because they thought he had chickenpox. It was the only thing i ever found that worked that did not poison the chld too.
It's like that here Badseed. Even in the middle of the day out in the open they are biting right through my t-shirt. And the flies are biting too. Yesterday I was at the checkout counter at a nursery and when I went to stick my hand in my backpack to pull out my wallet, there was a yellow jacket crawling inside!!! That was a close one. :^()
Big, bad skeeters here, I am swamped the minute I go outside and in my mind I am thinking West Nile, West Nile.
LOL, any Terrorist won't need to attack...just release mosquitoes!
They are so bad this year that I wonder what their reproduction will do for next year... We'll have to garden in those white plastic suits they use in contaminated areas,
LOL Well not funny really, but glad to hear I am not the only one walking around a few quarts low!
They are terrible here this year too, even in the daytime they bite.
TERRIBLE here even in the daytime. GO in my GH one time and see what happens to you. They didn't even take the day off during the slight wind storm we got from Isabel on thursday.
We've had over 100 birds test positive for west nile here lately,12 just this past week alone. We've also had several horses die from equine encephalitis due to mosquito bites.
I haven't heard of any human cases in our area but i'm sure it's just a matter of time.
Dry spell helped us here, but 3 people died from West Nile virus.
Bernie
I haven't seen one here in California all summer! I have put that Pool Dunk in all my plant saucers. I wonder if it has killed them all off around my yard.
One box headed your way Kell. I hate for you to be without. LOL
ok Chele I want to see ya out there catching them little buggers. lol If you run short come my way and you can get more.
No skitos here! One blessing of the 2 month drought, I guess. Cool out too--went down to 39 degrees last night. Only in the 60s today. Trees will be changing soon.
LOL Kell! Being that my oldest just turned 10, I guess I have a couple of years before they get open hand syndrome. LOL But just think, I'll have it X6!! What was I thinking?!?! Oh, I remember, they are so cute when they are little, so precious when they are sleeping. Hmmm, sounds a lot like a puppy and they don't need college or weddings. Silly me. Now here I sit with 5 daughters and one um, baby. :) I think I'll start buying stock in P&G or hope the skeeters suck me dry before the kids get a chance. ha ha ha ah
Wanda, I envy your bug free zone, but surely not those temps!! I'm trying to decide what's more important-Christmas presents for the kids or a greenhouse for me. LOL Guess which will win????
