Only in Iowa!

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Well, they've gone too far with this "Iowa is Heaven" stuff---they've turned my daughter into an ear of corn!

Actually, she's our High School's "Playtime Poppy" mascot for Children's Theatre performnces this weekend. It's quite an honor, (okay, quit grinning) really! She's a Thespian in my old high school troupe, but a much better actress than ever I was. Children's Theatre enlists our 3 high schools to each put on a play for the series aimed at 2-10 year olds. I was in the plays over 35 years ago, took nieces & nephews to them, took my kids to see nieces & nerphews perform in them, and now my daughter is "Playtime Poppy" & performing as a monkey in "Jungle Book" 9 times this week.

So, it's Iowa. What can I say?

How precious! No wonder you are proud of her.

Yeah--proud of a "happy little ear of corn"--the song still rings in my ears after taking my 2 Girl Scout Troops to 24 performances over 9 years. One of my older Girl Scouts was "poppy" for 3 years but passed the costume in a ceremony to my daughter last year.

In Iowa, we have to find our own ways of amusing ourselves...

Well,
I guess I won't dig much tommorrow. I'm informed that I need to throw lunch together for actors & crew for the play (3 performances). My daughter volunteered me. Tacos for 40, anyone?

Oh how cute! She would fit right in with our "Cornhuskers" on game day.

Is she field corn, pop corn or sweet corn?

Maybe the answer to my question depends on *when* that question is asked. Right?

Well, no one has ever tried "cooking" her , thought the costume is pretty toasty under the lights... Final performance of 9 was tonight. The kids are worn out, but over 4000 kids/adults saw the play in the last few days.

As "Poppy Mom", I'm done for another year---the other 2 schools have their own crews.Auditions on Monday for "A Christmas Story". We do 4 plays per year + a big Musical in May. Keeps us all hopping... But what else is there to do out here in the cornfields???

Nebraska Jewel--My hubby is a "Husker", so we don't put the inflated Herbie on the porch when Amanda is "Poppy". A little scary thought... LOL
