Edit Quota

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

I was updating a co-op thread to keep up with statuses as people reported getting their boxes and hit my edit limit for the day. What's the daily limit? Is there a problem with editing threads too often that we should know about?

Ummm, yes. There is a problem when people edit a lot of posts.

It happens infrequently, but occasionally someone decides to go on a full-blown search-and-destroy mission with their posts. It's time-consuming for Dave to restore them from the nightly backup, but it leaves gaping holes if he doesn't. (It's probably the reason many sites don't allow you to edit your own posts, but Dave chose to accept the risk and give us the ability :)

If the limit is too low, Dave can probably increase it, but for typical users and typical days, I would think it's rarely bumped into; I think this is the first time anyone has noticed it exists.

Thanks, Terry. Reason makes sense. I think it was a unique situation on my part where I was updating the same co-op thread many times as each package arrived and probably won't happen again.

I personally enjoy the edit feature and to have this constraint is a reasonable compromise. And you're right, typical users, typical days - probably never would come up.

Thanks for letting me know!

Does it make a difference if the previous edit notices are deleted?? I try to remember to do this when I edit so the post won't leave a lot of empty space.

Azalea, it doesn't matter to the "counter" if you delete them or not, but it is a good idea for the sake of other readers.

Great, I hated those gaping holes that ruined perfectly good threads for no good reason. I myself do like to erase all but the one remaining edit notice, so it does not look like I had no clue what I was doing!

Aha! Happened to me the other day while updating our RU forums, no matter what I'll abide by Dave's wishes. Thanks for letting us edit Dave, I thought I was saving space not creating more work for you, sorry :) now I know!
