It's a small world!

I posted a picture earlier this year in the plant database and I received an email from a church magazine editor from the Prague Czech Republic asking if they could use our photo. We said go ahead and sent them the photo without writing on it. This is the hyperlink to the pdf file for the magazine that just came out. We don't understand what it says, but that is our picture and my name is there every so often. It's a great world when you can take a picture and within months it is used half way around the world.

I'll bet you are just thrilled and you have every right to be. What a beautiful picture!

Too bad you don't know what it says but maybe someone like Flowox can interpret it for you. I believe she has Czech roots. I am sure there are others on DG that can interpret Czech.

I keep thinking how lovely that photo is. Thanks for sharing it and your honor.

That is pretty neat! I can't read it either but it looks like they really wanted to give credit and appreciation for your generous use of the photograph. Other than that All I could pick out were a few scriptures.

Kathy, I e-mailed my missionary brother the link. He and his family spent 7 years in Russia, and so he is fluent in the language. They also keep in close contact with missionary families in Prague. (That is why I asked him to look at this -- maybe it was from one of them!)

He said the magazine is similar to "Christianity Today" or other general religious publication. He would be willing to give a brief translation of an article, if you want.

Really and truly a small world :)

Thanks Kathy, but we realized our neighbors down the street are from Russia so we can have them look at and translate it if we want. I just think it is great how I posted a picture on DG and they found it in Prague. This is a great site.

But isn't that text in Czech? Not Russian..

You know Evert you are correct. I'll see if they can read it anyway, and if not it doesn't matter. I just like the idea of our picture in the magazine.

What plant did the man in California use of yours Evert?

I can say that Russian is all different from Czech.. Maybe if you know anyone who can speak Slovak, or Polish, they could help you?

He used my picture of Nemophila menziesii.

Kathy_T, maybe if you posted this translation request on the general Discussion forum you would get a response since I think more people go there.

Czech and Russian are different languages and they use different alphabets, but my brother told me that anyone fluent in either language would be able to sight-read the other. Sort of like Spanish and Italian and Portuguese are all similar. Your Russian friends should be able to give a rough translation.
