Fun with timezones

Here's a fun and experimental new feature: timezones. Go to your preferences page (find the link in the menu) and set your timezone to whatever your local time is.

Watch in awe as the forums then show the time in your own timezone!!

Dave

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

COOL! I like that!

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Dave, remember when I suggested this long time ago? Nice that you got it done.. Thanks :)

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Cool! But mine keeps switching from Pacific Standard to Pacific Daylight.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Why is there Swedish, Norwegian and Danish time, but no Finnish? We have to use the USSR zone 1. :( And why are there USSR zones? ;)

Maybe just a list of GMT (with - and + hours) would be the simplest and equal for everyone?

+- GMT might be best, indeed, but I fear it being too confusing for many folks here in the U.S. Most americans do not know what their GMT offset is. :)

Dave

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Maybe you could put the "American timezones" in the beginning of the list, and after them the GMT ones... What do you think?

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Dave, can you fix it so that the PST zone shows the corred=ct time and not the daylight time? I reset it to standard several times but it reverts to savings time.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Very good Dave
And it's nice to try and guess where others are and see their time too :)

I always found it useful to see the EST, so I had some idea of what time it is over in the US, but of course there are so many zones that that didn't work entirely lol

Tokyo, Japan

Wow! Awesome feature!!!

For more than a year now, I've had to subtract a day and then some to make sense of posting order.

Now everything is clear - I'm no longer stuck in some back to the future time slip....

Thanks Dave!

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

So which time zone are you Loph? We're on British Summer time in the UK until towards the end of October, when we revert (for reasons that have been explained to me, but I find hard to fathom) to GMT til March and then.....
lol

Zanymuse, you'll need to help me out here. I checked your preferences and you are indeed set to PST.

PST is GMT -0800.
PDT is GMT -0700.

Which one are you in right now?

dave

Tokyo, Japan

phi -

I'm in "Japan Standard Time/USSR Zone 8" (which, I guess, means I'm still in a back to the future time slip since the USSR hasn't existed since the Soviet Communist Party disbanded in 1991...)

Japan has never adopted Daylight savings time because office workers consider it a shameful deed to go home before sunset... Go figure.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Neat! 'Course, I've been in the same time zone as your server all along, except when it was briefly in Texas.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Questions.

I set mine to MDT, but will it change when we have to change the clocks, or do we have to do something then?

When I'm looking at the time other people posted, is that my time or theirs? I'm thinking we must be seeing all posts on the same time zone?

I like it though, just have some questions so I understand.

Joan,

Your MDT will change to MST at the appropriate time.

All times are represented in your own timezone. So if someone posts something at 5:00pm EDT, it will show up for you as 3:00pm MDT.

Dave

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Thanks Dave!

Okay, Evert - just for you. :) GMT offsets are now added as well. Pick whichever one you like.

Dave

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Thanks! :)

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Hmmm, think I prefer our way of going home as many hours in front of sunset that we can get away with Loph ;)

Thanks, Dave! That is a great feature.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Right now it is PST 10:04 but shows PST 9:04

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

I have to hit the 'Refresh' button to to be current.

Edited to ask: "Is that normal?"

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I like this!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

*I tried the refresh but it still is showing the time as being one hour earlier than it really is.

Edited to say...Senior moment... that lasted all day...I reset it to PDT and it now reads the correct tome.

Rapid City, SD(Zone 5b)

Hi Lisa - great to see you!

All is well and I've been around, just only manage to view three or four forums a day. Daves has gotten so huge I have sunk into lurk mode...don't have adequate time to maintain communications. Winter's coming tho.........and I have lots of photos to upload and have been working on another project for the PDB. Thanks for thinking of me! :)

And again, the time thing is GREAT Dave!
