Rothkirch, L'Amour and Cherie Amour

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Does anyone know who sells Rothkirch, L'Amour and Cherie Amour?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Good luck doll and if you find them, buy some for me! LOL I have never heard of the last one. Um, E me again. I may have some for you, not these, but maybe some you don't have. :) I have to work tonight so you may not hear back from me until tomorrow.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

There is a ebay auction for L'Amour right now.

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Those went for $66, I would love to have L'amour, and that would be the only one out of the 4 I would have wanted, so certainly wouldn't have paid $66 for it, lol.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I'd love to find both of them also but not enough to pay that price.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Actually that is not that expensive at all, considering you get L'Amour. Check out Native Habitat's prices.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Yeah, but that is no chage for postage on NH. Don't think they have L'Amour?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I notice lots of places are now charging $15 for even common ones, and postage.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

But did you also see how small they were. They were in plastic 3 oz. cups it looked like. I was going to bid until it jumped up so high.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

I bought my Rothkirch from Native Habitat.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Looks like I wasn't the only one watching that auction afterall. I was wondering how long it was going to be before someone got up the nerve to mention that there's a L'Amour on ebay. Everyone held their tongue though.

When I first saw it I wondered if it was the real deal or not so I went through some sources and found out that it is indeed a true L'Amour. Apparently the plant received some damage due to a storm and through beginers luck I guess the owner was fortunate enough to have rooted the pieces of a very difficult to root brug. Or at least this is the undertanding that I have of the situation of how the plant came about. Regardless it is true to name and was put up for auction for anyone to bid on.

I thought more people would have bid on it than actually did but as it turned out only about 3 of us were competative and bold enough to do it. I agree with all of you that $66 + postage for a total of $74 is a lot to pay for a plant but i'm sure that many of you including myself have waisted money on stupid things that we really didn't need. But guess what, when I finally get to see that L'Amour bloom in my own yard (yes I won it)i'll have to sit back and say that was $74 well spent!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yeah for you catsmeow! I was just watching the auction not bidding.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I saw that it had gone to $35 and then I forgot about it. When I went back to see, it had ended and I didn't know how much it went for.
Didn't someone auction another brug a while back that went for a lot of money?

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

it was creamsickle and a supposed double peach from NH which I think ended up being a dbl peach seedling ,but they sold for well over $100 so no I don't feel so bad about spending what I did for L'Amour.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Oh I almost forgot, i've already had an offer via email from somone to buy the plant and I haven't even gotten it myself yet. Someone went through my ebay user name to email me about it.
It's with deepest regrets that I have to inform that person if they are reading this, that that green gold known as L'Amour isn't for sale and will be put under protective custody and surounded by very aggressive dobermans (just Kidding)!
If it survives, and it should because the plant is as i've been told over a foot tall,i'll be kind hearted enough to share possibly next year depending on how well I can get this sucker to root. And trust me i'll definately be trying.

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Oh man, I have wanted that one forever, so put my name on that list, lol.

Possibly air layering might work, huh?

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

YAAH for you Cat. Hope it grows large and full (with lots of cuttings).

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Happy for you that you got it! Think L'Amour and RK are about the same on rooting, will be trying my hand at airlayering, which I have not done since I was ahem.....a kid.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Congratulations David. I hope your new kids grow well for you.

Good luck David.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Great David. I would pay that much for a L'Amour! It is worth it!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I can't wait to get it and get it going, but from the looks of our weather forecast for next week starting thursday keeping L'Amour alive and well may be the least of my worries.
Hurricane Isabel is getting enough attention here right now to wake some people up. The stores are packed with people buying anything and everything they may need should this thing hit S.C. or come close enough to pose a problem.

Back to the brugs though, the seller of the auction plants has found out through another source that I already have all of the other brugs that went along with L'Amour. She was kind and generous enough to have emailed me last night offering to sub other brug plants that I may not already have for the ones that I do. I thought that was quite nice considering that she is not obligated to do so.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Cat I wish you and the family well. Pack some bags just in case and stock up on water, batteries, and can foods but most importantly Leave if they say your going to be hit. Take care Donna

The above is a link to Cherie Amour a hybrid selected and grown by our dear friend Tig. L'amour appears to have some suaveolens genes in it if memory serves me as does Cherie Amour, but the later has much more of the suaveolens influence. Rothkirch is of course on almost everyones to die for list for hybridizing reasons mostly as from what I hear she is a poor rooter, slow grower, and not a very prolific bloomer either. On the other hand, Rothkirch has thrown out some of the most beautiful children and one could possibly get a first cross with Ecuador pink and Rothkirch to yield double pinks. I would like to see Rothkirch crossed to more pure aurea's though to increase our aurea gene pool and give us more pure pink aurea's from which to work with that had darker color, better bloom characteristics, growth, etc. I know a few individuals are working on creating new and improved pink aurea hybrids using pure aurea's already so who knows what the not to distant future may hold. I for one am very excited at the prospect of having a heavy blooming pure dark pink aurea that is easy to root and grows rapidly.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I don't think Cherie Amour resembles Rothkirch or L'Amour.

FSH, TX

Cala,
I'd most certainly have to agree with you there. Cherie Amour shows her suaveolens influence almost too well while Rothkirch and L'amour show very strong aurea traits. Of course as Rothkirch is a pure aurea that is how it should be. I think I'll stop there though....

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Cats:

Good luck with your new Brugs.

I hope Isabel does not go anywhere near you or anyone else in the U.S. Memories of Andrew still linger here and there are areas in Homestead that have never been rebuilt.....

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi Eric, would you explain to me how these 2 could make a double?
"possibly get a first cross with Ecuador pink and Rothkirch to yield double pinks"
LOL, as I have both blooming in my yard right now. Just last night I was debating if I should toss EP. Maybe I shouldn't! LOL
thanks

FSH, TX

Ecuador pink is a good plant for breeding, but if your not trying to create doubles or improve on pure versicolors at the moment I wouldn't keep her myself. Perhaps I could persuade you out of some of your Rothkirch pollen?

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

delecie, we got hit pretty hard here by hugo in '89 and I remember all too well what that was like. We didn't leave and rode the storm out, don't know if i'll try this one on for size or not though!
I went to wally world last night and stocked up on some pet food for the cats and dogs and junk for myself, batteries, water and such.

Cats,
Whats the projected path? Camille came through Biloxi in 1969 a cat. 5 hurricane and tore us up. Delecie we too still have empty lots on the beach since 1969. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this one will turn out to sea.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sounds like a terrible storm coming! I sure hope you all keep safe. At least you have a good warning.

Eric, I still do not get how an EP could make a double. Do you know? Has anyone grown one out before from that mix? My RK is small and only putting out flowers in 1s and 2s but I will be happy to send you some, just give it awhile to grow a few out at one time.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

looks like now the path is going to be someplace between here and Virginia. Hopefully it'll turn and not hit anywhere along the east coast.
I'll have to call state farm and get insurance on that L'Amour before I even get it!(LOL)

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

LOL cats! That's too funny! Your State Farm agent is likely to be dazed and confused when you tell him/her what you want to insure.

:-)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hope that it does turn back out and no one has to deal with high water and winds as well as the heavy rains that go along with them.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

this morning I actually got the chance to speak to the person whom I bought the L'Amour plant from. Looks like i'll get to see it bloom because the plant has buds on it up to 3 inches long.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Wow, that would be worth the money. Lucky you!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

You lucky boy. Put a picture of on the forum when it blooms.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Now if I can just get that pure aurea big enough to bloom for me we can do some serious pollinating here. I can't mention the other plants name for security reasons.

MY SECURITY!

But i'm sure some of you are going to figure it out. I've had it for a short while now and it is very actively growing and with a little luck hopefully by the time we have our first frost it will have some blooms for me to use. In the mean time I will be saving any pollen from these L'Amour flowers should they actually open.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I certainly hope and pray that nasty old hurricane doesn't come your way, but if it does, I hope it blows all your brugs all the way to North San Antonio. LOL
