Sider Bite?

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

I've got a spot on my hair line that I noticed a week ago.
It seems to be getting larger,it hurts sometimes as well as bleeds. There's a red ring around it.It scabs over then flakes off.It doesnt seem to be healing that well.
Ya think I was bitten by a spider?
I've been patrolling the creek alot this week, plenty of room for a spider to bite.:((.
How do I make it go away?....accccccccccccccccck.

Try the Health and Beauty forum if no answers here, Tsavo - I wish I had an answer for you, for that doesn't sound one bit fun.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Yes, it could very easily be a spider bite! And it may not heal without antibiotics. If it doesn't start going away soon you should get to the Dr. and have it checked into. Typical reaction to a spider bite is that a sore forme and scabs over, then the scab falls off and the sore deepens and scabs over again and the whole thing repeats with the sore getting deeper and wider with each scabover. Waiting too long can cause sever scaring at best and increased chance of infection as it worsens.

ALL spider bites are poisonous. But some people have worse reactions to them than others. What may just be a slight itch and red spot for some people from a small spider can cause the type of trouble described above in others even from so called "safe" spiders. And the red ring is an indicator of poison.

Get yourself to a doctor! Zany is right, a spider bite like this needs medical intervention. Spider bites destroy tissue and are difficult to clear up. My sister got 2 spider bites on her leg that acted much as you describe. Dr told her she was lucky...she was bitten by a BABY brown recluse. The bites took ages to heal and she has some bad scarring.

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

I agree..it does sound like a spider bite and should be checked especially if it was a brown recluse. Another possibility ,perhaps, might be a tick. No matter...get it checked.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh great, my heads gonna rot off.:|.
If it doesnt clear up ina few days I'll go to the hospital, yuck.:((.
Thanks guys!

Better go see the doctor asap don't wait any longer.

MERCER, PA(Zone 5a)

Don't think about going.....GO!
Lyme disease (caused by a tick bite) starts with a red ring (bullseye) around the bite. Very telltale symptom. I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, so that's why you need to go see one; please play it safe!

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

crimsontsavo....see a dr. ASAP....I have a friend that was bitten on her thigh and if she had gone right away it wouldn't have left such a hugh scar....

This thing was a real mess and now she has a scar about the size of a baseball on her thigh......her bite started out about like what you described it wasn't bad right away she thought at first it was a mesquito bite or something like that...

The Dr. told her if she would have come right away the pain and scaring would have been minimized....

I hate to be so scary about this but if it is a spider bite you need care... I know what pain and suffering my friend went through for months and I wouldn't wish it on anyone...

These bites can be very devastating and anyone who thinks they have been bitten by a spider needs medical attention immediately....don't tarry.....

I'm gonna be wring my hands over this so, Please keep us posted .... :o(

Go Tsavo - right now.

If it was a brown recluse (they are rampant in Florida) you could lose not only a lot of hair but create a huge bald spot of your head. I had a bite from a brown recluse that traveled north on some fruit my sister sent us from her vacation in FL and it took over a year for it to fully heal. You need anti-venin - and quick! And probably antibiotics too.

When I was a bartender we had a night when I and my customers compared brown recluse spider bites - one man lost most of his calf muscle to the venom!

If you take antibiotics don't forget to take Probiotics (L acidophilus, etc.) to replace the good bacteria in your body.

But get to the doc immediately.

Let us know how you are.

crimsontsavo I don't wanna scare you, but it also could be ringworm, cats and dogs sometimes have it and it is contagious. I got it once on my back from the cows. It's a pain to get treated.

I would see a doctor, just to make sure and to get proper treatment for what ever it is,

it's on your forehead and you sure don't want a scar there.

Zame, i wish it was ringworm.
That is easily dealt with.
Right now I'm treating it with peroxide.
If my head starts to shrivle up I'll go to the doctor,LOL.
Thanks!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Tsavo, please be careful. The necrosis will continue deep into the surrounding tissue if the venom is not neutralized. You don't want to end up like this: http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=spider+bite

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Hydrogen peroxide is fine for cleaning a wound but after that should not be used since each time you use it it kills skin cells and in a case like this can actually aggravate the problem....I learned that one the hard was ;~(

Twin Falls, ID(Zone 6a)

Don't fool around, my friend. People have lost thier lives from the recluse spider. Wishing you the very best.

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

crimsontsavo please get to the doctor. Peroxide won't help you. You need antivenin and an antibiotic. Go NOW

Guys, it's getting better.
I dont think it was a BRS.

Lemme tell ya what I was feeling like.

Before I noticed the bite I was feeling sick to my stomach
and light headed.
By the time I noticed it, it looked like a really red pimple or a bad mosquito bite.
As it grew in sort of "caved" in.Made like a crater in my head,:O. Keep in mind this is smaller than a dime.It never got too big.It would heal over then the scab would flake off.
It was constantly oozing stuff, kind of yellow clearish crud.
It wasnt poison ivy or oak, I know what those do to me, and this wasnt it.
It looked like the BRS bites, but alot smaller.
It didnt really hurt all that bad, just in the center.
I did run a very mild fever for a couple days.
There are ALOT of spiders at the creek, and I've slammed into them too many times to count, lol.
I'm almost positive it was one of those that bit me.
Apparently it wasnt too bad a bite, cause I still got my head,LOL!

Mum had the same thing happen to her, she was just telling me.Same symptoms and everything. There is apparently a spider in the house that had babies.LOL.......k now I'm off to kill a spider family, :)).

Don't worry guys, my head aint rotting off like I had previously thought!

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

Next time, remember MEAT TENDERIZER. Good for spider, bee etc as the enzymes "eat" the venom. http://www.lpch.org/HealthLibrary/ParentCareTopics/BitesStings/SpiderBite.html

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

ohhh thanks!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

janiejoy,I started reading this thinking about your link!

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

I still think that you need to get it checked unless it totally heals, ok? The way you felt and even the fact that there is a spider in the house (where they like to be, not out in the woods) makes me think even more that it was a BRS.

Just be careful. It's not something to be flippant about and people have died from it because they didn't take it seriously enough. I care about you and don't want a bad thing to happen to you.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

((hugs)) all's well. I will show ginger and she can post about how well it is healing,lol....that way you'll know im okay!

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks for keeping us informed...I still wish you would see a dr. about this crimson...........what's the harm in having it checked out??.....:o( (still wringing my hands)

The meat tenderizer works good on bites, stings etc, Hubby used it when a jelly fish brushed his foot a few years ago....... :o)
