Electric outages

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

What is going on.. Just a while ago there was a huge electric outage in NE USA and Eastern Canada areas, last saturday there was a big blackout here in Finland - although I don't think anyone out there heard about it, Helsinki (the capital) and the third largest city Vantaa were out of power for ½-1 hours. We didn't have any problems here in Espoo though. http://www.helsinki-hs.net/news.asp?id=20030825IE3 http://www.hel.fi/tietokeskus/suunnat/ss102/Image45.gif

Yesterday there was a blackout in London and SE England.

Wonder where's the next one?

Lindale, TX(Zone 8a)

I hope the next one is not in East Texas. We would be miserable without air-conditioning!

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Me either!

Cuyahoga Falls, OH(Zone 5a)

Evert - I know just what you mean. I wondered the same thing when one cruise ship after another came down with a virus. I am not an alarmist, but I can't help but wonder...

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

does make you wonder, doesn't it?

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

Sure makes me nervous. Has there been unbearable heat in Norway like these other places? That's what I've been hoping to blame it on. Too many people using their air conditioners and blowing the grids completely. Don't forget last year's months-long "rolling blackouts" in California.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Bill, you said it for me. In my younger days, I could go for years without turning on the a/c, but no more. If we have a power outage, Town Lake will overflow from all the people in it.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I don't know about Norway, but we had very warm weather here for more than three weeks with no rain in July. We also use a lot of power in Winter as many houses have got electric warming systems. Most have got a fireplace also, as if we have a power outage, and it would last long, it would be pretty cool in the house with no warming.
