Clerodendrum trichotomum

Birmingham, AL(Zone 8a)

Desperately seeking this plant!!!!!!! I have been trying to ID this shrub/tree for 2 years - finally found it on the ID forum. Now trying to get one! Anybody still have cuttings? Also how did you root them? I have a small piece off a neighborhood tree - its in water right now. Email me please - I have lots of stuff to trade!!! though my TL is behind right now.

Here's a pic of the piece I have, before I removed the flowers...just to make sure it is the right clero.

These plants send out suckers and you can easily scoop them out and repot them. I had to leave my big tree in TN, but brought a small plant with me that I dug from the base of the mother tree.

Irish: If it roots I'll let you know, cause I can get more pieces, but I'm dubious - just seems wrong time of year with the thing in full bloom and all.

I can send you both a plant, but I won't guarantee they'll make it. It seems to be a bit fussy about the roots being disturbed, but I have potted some successfully. I will ship them to you if you send a priority stamp, or if you want a better chance, I'll keep more dirt with it and weigh it and let you know how much postage to send.

Cala, any advice on this? Do you find some of them fussy about being moved? I just know I sent some to a couple of people up north about 2 years ago and they said they wilted badly. I don't know if they tried to save them or threw them away. I never heard anymore. That was the only time I mailed any.

Will the fall be better??
gingerlily did you get my mail??

THAT is one of my favorite trees!!! I smelled the fragrance a block away while on a walk in Seattle...was given a plantlet (owner pulled a runner shoot out of the lawn 15 feet away) and it grew into a most gorgeous specimin on the west side of my yard in Seattle. It was a traffic stopper!

I did find I had to spend lots of time pulling out the runner shoots from the garden and giving them away...and I pruned it WAY back every winter when it lost its' leaves. It bloomed after the first year in the ground.

It actually became very invasive in Seattle...thru snow, ice, wind and normal weather. That is one tough plant!

They wilt really badly when disturbed, will lose leaves and look terrible. Just water them in and put them in the shade till they recover. They will look like they're dying for a while, then will grow new leaves. I left mine in the pot till it had a good root system.
I got my first tree from my friend in Miss. We pulled up a plantlet, wrapped it in wet paper towels and it traveled 400 miles and still survived.

Thanks, Cala,

I thought most would come back, but those older leaves do wilt terribly and make it look bad.

Gingerlily thanks for the offer! BUT tiG is sending me one! Yippee! I had actually arranged the trade some time ago but confused this with another clerodendrum. There are so many!!! Boy do I feel stupid! Here I am begging for a plant that's already on its way...:()

Boy, I am late getting into this post. Do any of you have another start of this to trade? I can offer Canna 'Pink Sunburst' or cuttings of Hoya's tsangii, australis, bella, wayetti or moteskii in trade.

I have quite a few to share. I would love the pink canna. Send me your address.

Would it be better to wait until the fall to mail this plant?
Or does it matter?

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

I don't know if it makes any difference. Whenever you want to is fine with me.
