This smells so good.
Clerodendrum trichotomum
susie...that is one unusual flower! Everblooming?
Okay, I got some of these last year and shared with Glory. Mine hasn't bloomed. Can you get me some instructions on how best to grow it? I have it in almost full sun right now, but it just doesn't do anything. No sign of a bud or even branching. It is healthy and lived through the winter, but boring the way it is. Thanks.
It's a fall bloomer. It's had buds for a while, just opened this week. It's in full sun, loose soil, once a year timed release fertilize. No special care.
If they grow from cuttings, can someone spare some hardwood cuttings? I love this plant. The butterflies must love it.
Barb, I have some rooted plants.
OK Tig, how did you get yours to blooms so fast? That tree is loaded!
I didn't do anything:) but it gets water and food because of being near the brugs? that's the only thing I can think of. it's been loaded like this for a long time.
Mine is in the ground, is yours? Did you bring it in last winter? I've waited all summer for this huge plant to bloom! Waaaaaaah, not fair!!!(just kidding, glad your plant is blooming so good)
I didn't bring it in, it's hardy here. And I was thinking, the brugs in that bed only get fed in the pot, and I never use the sprinkler on this bed. it's in full sun if that helps. but we have one in mostly shade that's blooming too, just not this well (it will be moved come fall)
They are hardy here too. The soil in this bed is really good soil, has lots of manure worked into it the last few years, so maybe that's why it grew so tall and didn't bloom till now.
Ms Ruby gave me this plant. Hers was loaded with blooms and she dug this little sprout up for me and I've been waiting and waiting for blooms!
Well tiG, the one you gave me is in a pot and about 3' tall but no blooms yet. I think I'll cut off it's MG habit and see if that inspires it. lol :)
I think I'm going to dig in a bunch of manure around mine and see if that will help. I've only watered it, so might give it some fertilizer too. Maybe next year it will do something. Thanks!!
tiG, do you have an extra one for me too. If so, what can I send you?
I have plenty, will have to find one that will fit in a box.
Thank you, now what can I send to you?
tiG, how big do those get and do they die back in the winter? It is gorgeous, think I could get one too?
I would love to get one, too.

weeds, from the info I've found they get about 15'. Ours is about 8' or so and it's two years old. They don't die back. will put you on the list:)
Great, thanks....it is beautiful.
Colie, let me see if I can find another small enough to mail.
Would anybody happen to know if the clerodendron foetidum is hardy to zone 8? After looking at this thread, I did a google search to ID mine. All the info said only to zone 9, so it may not be as hardy as this variety. The trich variety is beautiful.
TiG,
Any chance of another small one..If so, please let me know and what you want in return, maybe I will have it.. Thanks..
Larkie
tiG, I think you need bring them to the swap for everyone, like a carrot, LOL. C'mon girls, c'mon!
Larkie, I'm sure I can find one for you and Colie, just need to get out there today and look. I'll let you know. This really is a great tree.
Catlady, I hope someone can help.
I am still trying to find this plant(clerodendrum trichotomum. Can anyone one tell where I can find one?
Colie, I'm hoping when I get them out of the ground for the swap that I will have one for you. Will let you know this week.
Mine still has not bloomed. I wonder what I should do with it...dig and toss or move to a different location? It gets 4-6 hours of sun now, maybe more.
Hey Susie, I got all three Cleros from the co-op and they are potted. Only the ugandense bloomed but one of the others grew and grew. Can I let these go dormant in the garage or should I try to keep it growing in the house?
Shirley, Please don`t toss it. Give it a chance and move it. If all else fails, send it to this old lady. She will take care of it. M.
Well, I left it where it is for one more year. It is alive and grew some. Will maybe move it in the spring.
Can anyone tell me when is the right time to harvest the seeds from this plant? I would assume to pick them when they are purple-ish, but they are very "fleshy". Does anyone know if I pick them when they are still fleshy and full of juice or do I wait 'till they dry up?
If anyone has an extra clerodendrun trichotomum-I would love to trade for one. Can't seem to locate one.
Thanks.
I got mine from some guy at GW. Of course, it was so long ago that I don't remember who he was. Mine hasn't grown much yet. I think it is due to be moved to a new location.
I have some small ones I need to get rid of. Aren't you the one that wants the pink native azalea? I could put both in the same box. Send me your address and I'll get some off to you, just reimburse the postage please.
bump.
I'm still hunting one of these-if anyone has an extra small plant to share.
Thanks.
