How do I know what a "fair" trade is?

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

For anyone new to Dave's Garden, it's a bit daunting to know where to start in trading, how much is fair and how to contact people? What is the best way of finding out this information?

Some people trade seed for seed, or plant for plant. Meaning 1 or 2 packs of your seeds for 1 or 2 packs of the traders seeds. Or a plant cutting for a plant cutting, rooted cutting for rooted cutting.
9 times out of 10, when I make a trade with someone and we have agreed on let say 3 different packs of seeds I usually throw in a bonus pack of seeds just because.
As with a plant trade, most of the time I trade one plant and several packs of seeds as one trade. That way I can pretty much expect the same thing in return.
If I see a thread where a member is listing the seeds they have available then I usually go ahead and post to that thread as what my wants are. If they say they want to trade then I tell them I will e/mail them my trade list.I then go to their name which is on the left side of the page and I click on that memebers name and it brings up their homepage. I then send them a e/mail from there.
Usually from there, the rest of the trade is done thru personal e/mails, in which we exchange home addresses and dates as to when we will be shipping out our end of the trade.
