PDB: Is there a limit on how many pictures I can submit?

What’s the 5 day limit on uploading images?

There is none, that I am aware of. Images uploaded stay forever, not just 5 days.

I crossed through a thread on one of the forums, where a member alluded to the fact that she had reached her "five day limit" and that's why her image wasn't showing up.

Maybe what you ran across was where we were limiting ourselves to 5 images a day during 'The Big Server Crash of '03'

A couple of months ago the main server failed and Dave was reduced to hosting DG from his home PC for awhile until the new equipment could be programmed and installed.

We all tightened our belts and tried not to overload the system while repairs were made.Part of this was to limit our PDB submissions until everything was fixed. We also held back on images to DG and anything that would make the system slow down.

Most webmasters would have just pulled the site offline until the repairs were made, but our Fearless Leader worked it around where we could stay in touch and enjoy a scaled down version of our site. Needless to say, repairs were made in record time and DG is faster and better than ever!

It's a moot point now, but one thing I'd like to clarify: the server is VERY robust, and could easily handle as many images a day as users want to upload.

Our four editors (on the other hand) can only do so much, especially when there are coverage issues, such as summer vacations and other activities that take us away from being able to edit.

When the server came back online, we anticipated a glut of new images pouring in, and without the queue we have now, it was difficult for us to review each image for quality assurance. That was the real reason for the request to limit everyone to 5 images/day.

The other by-product of too many images is the size of the newsletter. Since it captures all the daily activity, heavy image days can create an ENORMOUS newsletter. (And generally a flurry of unsubscribing when people see it as too cumbersome to digest and enjoy.)

However, the queue has made this issue a non-issue :)
