You mean we actually get to discuss our thoughts?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi Dave,
I am new to DG since today, August 19th and I like it already. What a wonderful feature to actually get to talk to you and to discuss what we like and don't like.
Actually the lack of this on the forum I was on, was what drove me away from it. This is wonderful! Not having posts that disagree with the management erased and eliminated ! Thank you very much. Margie

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Welcome Margie! You're gonna love it here! DG is the BEST place on the net!
Make yourself at home and jump right in.
Have you made your way to the Welcome Mat Forum yet? Go over and introduce yourself. You'll see what a warm welcome everyone gives you.
Have fun and keep on posting!

Kylertown, PA(Zone 5b)

Margie,

Were you part of the "big purge" of the Daylily Forum "over there"?

Welcome, and I know you'll love it here!

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Welcome, Picturelady :) All the staff here at DG actually talk with us! Not hide or anything like that :) And they welcome help and advice from us members and subscribers. I love this site; my favorite place on the Web. Kathy aka lupinelover

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

You can definately express your opinions on this site so long ad they are not political, religious or offensive. Dave is open to suggestions and relys on members to point out any bugs in the system. So please make yourself comfortable and enjoy getting to know us as we get to know you!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Inda Shade,
Yes, I was from the daylily forum 'over there'. I was not banned, as some others were but found the banning of them/ at least her, and not letting us express ourselves without our posts being eliminated not acceptable.
I did make alot of friends, 'over there' but will not put up with being treated that way.
I have only been here 2 days and like a lot about it already! I am looking forward to getting to know you all here as you get to know me. Margie aka Margieh

DG is nothing if not laid back. It's not pretentious, restrictive or controlling. As Zanymuse points out, the only thing off limits is religion and politics. And even religion isn't off limits, "discussing" it is.

I think this is the best place on the web. I even think people who don't garden would enjoy it. =)

Cheri'

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Don't worry, I have no intention of discussing politics or religion or saying anything offensive ! Only want to talk about gardening and photography & obtaining more daylilies ! Margie

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Welcome Margie - yes, your ideas and suggestions are most welcome here, and we're glad to have you gardening with us!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Hi Picturelady
I too was at the other place and left because I had
suggested a couple of good books in the water gardening
forum. I had posted them because I had noticed peoples
questions regarding water lilies were not being answered.
Those in charge were very quick, that time, to point out
to me that the best information couldn't be found in a
book but only in the site. They went on to say that
these books weren't very informative!! One was by Perry
Slocum and the other was by Swindell-two of the best!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Sheesh -- how egotistical can they get? One of the things I most love about DG is that we're all in this together, and we know there's wisdom in a multitude of counsel!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I informed them that the books only added to the knowledge
base but...they don't think that way.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Where do they think people gain their knowledge in the first place? So, by their logic, anyone who's got a degree in horticulture is ignorant if any of his or her knowledge came from books and not their site. That just rankles me.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

It does that to me too. But I work at a Library at the
Reference desk so it is only natural to suggest all possible
sources-I also suggest to a member, through the mail, to
check out Dave's Garden Watchdog. That was the end of
my relationship there-I didn't realize how many different
ways one could upset them. Too much of a newbie...oh
well, live and learn!

I've never hung out at the 'other place', so this is just fascinating to me. I don't generally go around joining communities, I don't do a whole lot of chatting online ...

Would it be fair to say that while DG is about gardening and gardeners, the 'other place' is about 'the other place'? That's the picture I'm getting. I presume that place must be free ... who would pay to be treated so shabbily?

Cheri'

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I was pulled as a freebie member but did receive an email
that I could become a paying member!?! My brother joined
instead-just to advertise not to become involved!! You are
right in your assessment of them though-as far as I am
concerned!

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

DAVES HAS BEEN MY REFUGE FOR OVER 2 YEARS NOW. IF IT WERE NOT FOPR ALL MY FRIENDS HERE I AM NOT SURE WHAT I WOULD HAE DOE. I GO NO OTHER PLACE AND NEVER INTEND TO. WHY LOOK AROUND WHEN YOU ALREADY HAVE THE BEST!!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

That's why I joined here jcf-it looked interesting
as a lurker and I have loved it since becoming a paying
member. Probably too much-my family are constantly at
me to leave the computer!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

My husband is always at me to leave the computer, too.
There is so much to learn though,it is hard to get away once I get on. Margie

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL My DH says that I spend so much time at the computer that in order to recognize me in a crowd I have to turn around so he can see the back of my head!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

My mother-in-law said today "first thing this a.m. she
was on it-wasn't even awake yet", oh well, could have
worse obsessions than this. I do point out that it is
educational!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Cheri,
The other daylily forum had been the only 'community' that I had ever been on. I had planned to stay. It is too time consuming to join too many.
But it was not what I was looking for, I found out after a few months there. So I looked at others, that is what got me here.
Margie

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

Margie, this is the place to be. I'm not even interested to see what else is out there. I end up at 'the other place' doing desperate google searches, but I've never felt tempted to linger.

Funny, that's how I ended up at DG ...

Cheri'

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Margie,
Welcome to DG, which is the most pleasant, informative, non-judgmental sites I've ever visited...actually, it is the ONE site that I visit daily, sometimes to the exclusion of other things I should be doing..

My hubby tells me as soon as he sees me at the pc....ah, it's Dave again, eh?!

And, speaking of things that need to be done, I must get to the 'Y' before I don't! LOL :)

Can someone give me clue - what is the "other place". I want to besure I don't go there .

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi Honey, the other place is Garden Web. Most of the long timers here, were once members there. Some still are. Some got booted, some just don't like to go there anymore. I still pop over here and there, but very rarely, to keep up with people or see what is going on, but I rarely post. I even deleted my trade list. The one big difference between here and there....you can say Garden Web here and be okay, but say Daves Garden over there....ZAP! Nice knowing you. DG is more of a community with lots of friendly banter and chatting while the other place is pretty much strictly trading. The choice for where to hang my trowel has been pretty easy for me. :)

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Badseed,
I agree with most of your points, but I did find that it was very informative for me and I didn't see it mostly for trading, as a matter of fact my plants are too new to do any trading with...but I did learn alot. The worse part was not knowing what was OK to say and lossing 'friends' I made...without warning.
This does seem to be a much, much more relaxed forum. I am glad that I found it.

I was booted for posting that I had received a virus from several members. It was "off topic, and causes unnecessary panic. There are plenty of other places on the web for this kind of thing." Duh, why would I go to another place to talk about a virus running rampant on Garden Web, instead of trying to warn people so it could be stopped. I emailed spike that I concluded that he started the virus himself. He wasn't happy about that. Silly boy.

Crossville, TN

Does anyone have a picture of this Spike person?? Jo

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

LOL, I am now 'watching this thread' in the very off chance that someone might have a picture of Spike. That would be something to see.

I saw a picture of Spike several years ago. Someone linked to it from here at DG. I'll see if I can find it.

Dave

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I _knew_ I wasn't crazy! I started to post this last night, and then cleared it.Thought I must have been dreaming. But I remember that picture.. glad Dave remembered too.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I too, would like to see if there is a "real" Spike, or a figment of our imagination! I love it here at Daves'.

I can't find it. I searched for a few minutes this morning to no avail. It was a picture of Spike (Bob) at a GardenWeb get-together.

Dave

Walkerton, VA(Zone 7a)

I luked a while at GardenWeb a while just like I lurked here before subscribing. I'm real glad I'm here!!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I hope somebody can find a pic of this guy-I really
would like to see what he looks like. It's got to
be better than what I am picturing in my mind...maybe?!?

If memory serves me, he looked just like any other human. :) No real surprises.

Dave

Kylertown, PA(Zone 5b)

I dunno why, but I always picture him as a Danny Bonaduce lookalike. When he was ten. :-)

Picture the great OZ, after they pull aside the curtains...
