Digital pictures printed?

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

I have some digital pictures I want to get printed, but don't want to make the investment of a home-pc printer. I've seen advertisements of stores that will perform this service, but who has the best quality?

Does anybody have experience with this? What media should the pictures be on? CD? 3.5" ? Zip disk? It's too late to have them on the camera media card - they've been transferred....

TIA,
-Jennifer

Jennifer, color inkjet printers are soooo cheap these days. Why NOT by one? I just paid $99 for one, and it had a $20 manufacturer's rebate. It's only 600dpi, but that's better than my eyes can tell, LOL.

I think most decent camera and film developing places will make prints from digital images. I'd say the cost varies from place to place. I'd use a CD. They can hold a boatload of photos, but you have to be sure and lable them and/or put them in folders so the photo place will be able to identify the ones you want printed.

Another option is to take some kind of removeable media with the pics to a Kinko's and print them yourself. I know Kinko's has at least one place in Greenville, maybe more. I'd call first to check print prices and rental of the computer...

AngelSong: I've had good luck with putting them on a CD at WalMart.

You can upload your pictures to both mail-order and traditional retailer photo services, too. Wal-Mart's is very handy because you can upload your pictures and then pick them up at your local store a few days later. Most major discount stores have stand-alone kiosks which let you pop your media card into a drive, choose, rotate, and otherwise edit your photos, then print them right on the spot. They can be pricey, but if you do them when there are sales, or print many on a page, they're not too bad for the convenience.

Here's some options for you. Many of the online services offer free prints to people first signing up, so it's a great way to see for yourself whether you like their service.

Snapfish: http://snapfish.com (I've used them - love them)

Wal-Mart: https://www.walmart.com/photo/
Shutterfly: http://www.shutterfly.com/home/signin_newuser.jsp (liked them, too)

What other services have y'all used or heard of?

I have used Shutterfly and was very pleased. I ordered on the weekend and got the prints in the mail on Tuesday (it may have helped that I am probably only 10 miles from their processing center.) Costco offers 1 hour from most media and I have heard good comments about it. Rite-Aid also (but no experience there.)

At 29 cents per photo, a $99 printer plus paper and ink seems expensive. The quality of print was also better than I got from my printer. I would still have a color printer and I will likely still print some at home, but the commercial processor seems to come out much clearer.

I also get my photos done at Shutterfly & think they are great.

Thanks, all. I ended up getting a sheet made from a local photo store - cost *way* too much, but I don't intend on getting any more done that way. I just wanted a couple for a few cards I'm mailing to some friends.

Thanks!

I love Shutterfly. I take lots of pictures and send copies to friends and family. I have purchased a large batch of prepaid discount pictures with Shutterfly. Then, I can send copies to everyone right at home when it is convenient for me from my home computer. I do not have to do the photo editing while worrying if there is someone in line behind me waiting etc.. The cost of postage to everyone is alittle higher than if I had copies made and spent the day trying to figure out what I had planned for all my copies and then write notes with my prints to send to friends and family. So, I find the convenience and time saving worth every penny of their postage charges.
I did "splurge" and purchased an $100 printer. There I use heavy matte paper and print pictures and make note cards that I use when I write my often sent little notes. I buy envelopes for these cards at a bulk warehouse and get them cheap. I love that I am using pictures that I took. In fact recently I took pictures that included the person and printed them for their thank you notes. It was a hit! Good luck with your pictures!
