Surprise!

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Everybody celebrated with me when I got my job in SC, and everybody celebrated when my Master's degree was completed. I've got another accomplishment to share. :) I'm building a new house! That's why I've asked all those gardening and decorating questions. :)

I've been taking pictures from start to finish, and "finish" should be in about 2-3 weeks. It's about 1150 sq. ft. , 3 bed, 2 bath, laundry/mud room, 1 car garage, tray ceiling in the master bedroom, and sloped ceiling in the living room. The paint is almost completed, cabinets and counters are in, and the linoleum floors are laid. Next week all "mechanicals" will be completed: plumbing, electrical, HVAC.

I didn't want to post my next request in "plant trading" because I don't want it visible to non-subscribers. Anyone, that knows anything about zone 7b gardening, or plants, or can share *anything* at all, I'd love to hear from you. I've never grown in this zone before, and don't want to waste a fortune in plants killing them in the heat. Mom (Sledder) has offered to pay the postage for anybody that can send me plants. Please email me thru here if you can help.

Thanks! :) I'm so anxious to move in, and be in my *own* house! Furball and Hobbs will have so much extra space, too! :)

OH; Congratulations my dear. How exciting it is to be moving to a new place; especially one that you can call your very own.
Your first Christmas in your new home, and we're all invited, right? LOL
Will be looking forward into seeing other pictures now.

Congratulations! Building your first home is such an exciting experience. The lines of your house will make for interesting beds, and a covered porch to have a little seat or bench and some plants is wonderful. I know you are proud of your accomplishment.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

congrats Angelsong, i remember when you were moving there.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Congratulations!!!! Nice house and I'm sure everyone here will help get that landscape looking good soon :)

I don't have a clue about zone 7 though :(

Anyone?

Crossville, TN

Jennifer, I am so excited for you! As to plants...the only thing I have are CACTUS! Maybe I can find some seeds though. I want to have something from me in your garden of memories. Jo

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Feel free to give me a holler...ya want bedding plants? Herbs? Shrubs? Veggie seeds?

(Maybe while the 'big equipment' is there you could entice them to dig up/loosen a spot for a small veggie patch, eh?)

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Iris, daylilies? (I just saw the yard - I won't suggest hostas) :)

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

How wonderful! I am happy for you and wish you many great years turning this new house into the home of your dreams.

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

LOL! *giggle* A hosta yard, it's certainly not! I'll get a tree in there someday .... course, it'll be *years* until it provides any shade, but I'll get there.. :)

roadrunner - anything you can offer. Since I'll have an office room with a lighted stand, seeds should be "startable" in that room. (A nice room, at that, quite off limits to the curious furbabies *:)*)

'Shoe - I think most of the "big equipment" fellows are gone. :( I'm already thinking I have to modify the cruddy clay anyways, so I'll be investing in a shovel quite soon. I was sort of planning a vegetable/fruit/herb garden area, formal in style, with all useful plants in it - things I can use around the house. The thought of my first edible veggie or fruit grown in my own yard just makes me smile!

There are going to be some shrubs installed in the front border of the house. Here's a shot of a similar house that's already done, with the sort of shrubs that mine should have. I'm hoping to beg, borrow, and plead for a boxwood at least somewhere in that bunch. I think those are the neatest shrubs, with the little sturdy leaves.

Beautiful home Jennifer! I'd be happy to mail you some plants next month or early October. Why couldn't you put Hostas on the east or north side of the house? Still too much sun? I'll email with a list of what I can share with you. God bless you in your new home!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

:)little sis what wonderful news!! it looks like a great new "home"!
Jennifer I can send some stuff too-how about some iris's and daylilies! ;)
Im doing the happy dance with you!

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Daylilies! :) I'm planning to use those beautiful fellows to anchor down a muddy hillside that sits about 10' from my garage. Irises are really tall, right?

Wow.. need to spend more time in the Plants Database and figure all these new plants out :)

Thank you!

Well, knock me over with a feather, Jen -- congratulations! What a darling house that is, too. I love the porch on it. Good for you and the fur-kids!

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 6a)

And your Mom is proud!! Yep...I'll pay all postage. Send me emails. :)

Bolton, Greater Manc, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

WOW! A woman that can do!! fantastic house. I cant send you any plants cos I live in the UK but I could send you some seed if you like?

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Jen Congrats..... Its about time you made the big annoucement. When will you be ready to start getting plants?

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

:) When will I be ready .... Probably around Sept. 6-9, somewhere in that neighborhood. I will probably hide stuff in the garage if I'm not ready to move by then, but I figure to be moving around that time. I can "hold" most things in pots and/or cool dark areas until I'm ready right (within reason, of course)?

psilo - If you think you can, sure! I don't know a thing about sending seeds overseas legally, but if you do, and have extras laying around, I'd appreciate it. :)

Thanks everybody. :) Went over yesterday, and found the painting completed, except for final coats on two colored rooms. They plan to finish those two after all of the carpet and lights are in, as it's hard to touch up colored paints, and just easier to paint over any and all knicks that might come from carpeting and lighting.

It's incredibly close to being done, and I'm SOOOO satisfied with my builder! :)
