Mosquito Remedy!

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Pass it on to anyone who like sitting out in the evening or when they're having a cook out. So you don't like these Pesky mosquitoes, especailly now that they have the potenital to carry the West Nile Virus?

Here's tip that was given at recent gardeing forum.
***Mosquito Remedy***
Put some water in a white plate and add couple drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent. Set the dish on your porch, patio, or mosquitoes flock to it, and drop dead shortly after drinking the Lemon Fresh Joy/ water mixture, and usually within about 10 feet of the plate. Check it out...it works just Super! may seem trivial, but it may help control mosquitoes around your home, especially in the South and elsewhere where the West Nile Virus is reading epidemic proportions in mosquitoes, birds, and humans.

Enjoy it! =D

Thanks REDROSE! I'm going to try it

We must have mutant mosquitoes here in TX. I tried this about 3 weeks ago. It didn't work for me. I hope everyone else has better luck.

Thanks for the info RR, I sure will give it a try.

You are all welcome! It really work for me great!

I tried this last year, after someone sent me an email about it. It didn't help a bit here. I'm glad it works for some people. The Avon SSS didn't work here, either. I wish it was so pleasant and simple, but it just hasn't been yet.

Really not work for some of you so how often did you use?
That don't mean kill all of them for one day gone need to use often it work kill mosquitos. That has so millions mosquitos go around. I use to keep it up it really work, I don't give up. ;)

RR, I kept several plates out for weeks, but there were no dead ones nearby, as had been reported in the email sent to me, and there were still swarms of live ones biting me.

I have been burning rags like mom use to do and I know they don't like the smoke but I am going to try it and see if it will work for me. With all the rain we've been getting here the little buggers are so bad that I can't sit out in my backyard at night that is when it doesn't rain without getting eaten alive.

Makes me think of when I was a kid.... My stepmother's family all put a cotton ball on the center of the front door screen to repel flies.

Did she burn it and did it work?

Dripping Springs, TX

Aimee I'm SW of you. The only thing so far that has helped me soemwhat is this oil mixture I came up with. I burn part of it and spray part of it on me.

Desert-rose, what is it? I do remember when my grandparents would have a little fire smouldering nearby when we sat outside at night, which was in Louisiana and was almost every night if it was warm enough. Unfortunately, my back porch, where my laundry is, wouldn't be the place to have a fire. And the entire yard, or pasture, is unpleasant because of mosquitoes. In the past, they were only bad in early morning and at dusk, but now it's 24/7, forcing me to wear repellant and reapply it often.

I think the cotton ball on the screen worked by frightening away flies when a slight breeze caused it to move. My mother often used a string of lightweight feathers, the ones with soft spines.

When I sit outside, I have a chiminea where I keep a smoldering, smoking fire. I also burn a couple of citronella candles. Has been working so far.

I actually have good luck drowning fleas. Since I'm on acreage between a county road and a state highway, a lot of people drop off unwanted cats, and some of them survive in my woods as feral cats. Eventually, they find their way to the back yard and porch where I feed my own cats. Also, the coons and possums and squirrels are feeding in the area. So it follows that every few years I have a terrible outbreak of fleas. I learned that I can put a pan of water on the porch, place a lamp close to it, and the fleas will jump into the water. A few drops of detergent makes it more certain that they will drown instead of climbing up the sides of the pan. It's safe and effective, no worry about my cats being poisoned. In years when the fleas were really numerous, the water would be speckled with the floaters before they sank to the bottom.

Thanks Lisa so weird when I check the white plates and see some mosquitoes and couple of kind of little bugs on that plates every now then, I guess it drown them so I use little soap liquid Lemon Joy and mix some mouth wash and spray on my roses it help rid of white flies.
