So who's missing in the blackout?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I've been thinking about all the folks who've had to scramble on foot to get home from work, and then sit in a hot house when they got home. What a huge area to be down at once! Anyone heard from our DG members in the blackout?

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

According to the news it may be awhile befor many get their power back. In the meantime it looks like they are taking it in stride and making the best of it.

Perrysburg, OH(Zone 5a)

I was driving from Ann Arbor to Toledo when it happened, I have a rental car this week while my DH's car is getting repaired, the radio just quit working so I was hitting the dash board thinking it was the car. Finally one local station started a generator and reported what was going on. Toledo is a small town compared to NYC, but the rush hour traffic with no lights was horrible!!! Our store is at the corner of one of the busiest intersections in the city, luckily police were directing traffic, and had also stopped in the store to make sure the staff was okay. I thought that was really nice of the officer to do that.

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

We lost power for a couple of hours in Albany, NY. Traffic was pretty bad, but by the time I was home the power did come back on. Very grateful for that. Best wishes out to those who were stranded.

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

we were out from 4:30 until around midnight, I think. I went to bed, and Stan stayed up and babysat the alternator. We have it set up now so that not only does the barn have power, but the house as well. The cows got milked, the milk got cooled and the grandchildren got to watch some tv before bed.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

I am glad you are OK Kathleen; of course the news focuses on places like NYC and ignores Buffalo! I have family there, and have been worrying about them. Are they powerless? I heard a rumor that it was the generator at the Falls that started the grid meltdown.

Crestedchik reported in at another Forum that her power is back. Waiting to hear from lots of other NY and VT and NH and ME (wow! so much of the US!)

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

The report did mention Buffallo. Naturally I thought of you Kathleen, your animals and the rest of our East Coast friends. I wonder how many Ohio folk have been affected!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Kathy just this minute your email arrived. Good heavens girl!! I have a dental appt this morning so will catch you later.

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Two fried surge protectors, but other than that, we seem to be fine. Thank goodness I invested in the surge strips!

Verona, ON

Well, we just got our power back, it's 6:32 p.pm. It did concern me on earlier today for a fleeting moment. Our whole system up here is so fragile after the 98 Storm. It is like putting a bandaid on a broken leg. We're tough folks here and ready for almost anything, unlike those who live in the city. Filled up all of our jerry cans early this morning so we can use the generator if necessary. My biggest fear ( from the ice storm of 98) is lack of water - us with the deepest well in the county and on a lake. For my DH's sake please laugh at me, I know, I know BUT I still fret about that. Hope everyone fared as well as we did - those dairy cows just won't wait will they!!
Actually I think we are in better shape than those in the big cities after listening to the news. Thanks so much Kimberely for posting your concern for us all. We sure do appreciate it. D

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I'm afraid I'd cave in the face of everything y'all have had to put up with. No, actually, we'd do what had to be done, but it would not be as easy for us - let's put it that way! I'm so glad to hear from you guys!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Kim, i've thought of you during these days and thought that you would be in the dark. glad to hear you're ok.
hope all returns to normal for everyone - i was pretty worried here - so far away with no reliable news.
