Congraulations Dave. I have watched my husband try to quit 4 times, twice with great success. You're right the "Oh, I can have just one syndrome then go back to not smoking" can sneak up on you. It sure did for W.. He tried everything, laser, cold turkey, super hard physical work, thinking he would be too tired to smoke then success with the patch. It's been 5years, 42 days and 7 min. but who is counting? One thing that I did for him that he really enjoyed and then he did end up with all this extra money at the end of a set period of time was I paid him everyday what he would have spent on smokes. He put it away but got such a thrill watching it grow in actual dollars, that it helped him stay motivated. He sure enjoyed spending it all on what HE wanted when all was said and done.
Yes, he did gain weight but I just kept telling him it was all the more for me to love.
Bravo on your committment to stop smoking. Continued success. D

How's it going Dave? I know quitting smoking is a very hard thing for most to do. My DH quit cold turkey many years ago. Said he only missed it when he drank the hard stuff so he quit drinking the hard stuff.

Hi Dave, i am a formerly nicotine stained fingers girl too! It has been over one year that i put out my last smoke. I too used the wellbutrin to help me quit. Before i started taking the medicine the dr. told me if i wanted a smoke to have one and not just try to stop right off the bat!! He said "all" of his patients that "quit" used this method and then quit for good when they were ready. I was so surprized to have quit!! i smoked for almost well, more than 30 yrs. So i just knew i couldn't do it!! about 7 months later i found that i was not wanting to smoke at all!! I even tested myself and bought a pack(after not having one for 2 months), i smoked one and threw the rest away!! smoke free here :)

Sorry for not popping in here recently. I just got back in town. I took a nice 5-day vacation to my parents' house in the beautiful Pocono Mountains. Just pulled in about 2 hours ago. I am proud to say that throughout the 8-hour drive there (and back), and also the entire time there, no smoking! I was kinda worried about the long drive, but I did it! Now I'm going to start working on losing weight! I can't wait to be a non-smoker in shape!

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement through this endeavor!

Wow, R&R and no cigs. Good for you, man!

Tootsie - One of Howie's co-workers was prescribed Wellbutrin for smoking cessation, too. It's also been found helpful in aiding people in weight loss.

Congratulations! I'm still a smoker/wannabe quitter. I've tried a couple of times but failed. Your thread has inspired me again. I really hate smoking, but,,,,yes, it's an addiction. I hate that, and want to overcome it. I'm going to try again as soon as it gets cold here. Since I can't smoke in our house, and I can't smoke in my office building, I'm thinking...Why smoke at all?

Congratulations!!! I'm so proud of you!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Yea JoanJ. I will be here for you if you need me. I am a never smoker though so I may not be much help. It sounds like a valid plan though. Good luck!
