posting newspaper article

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I have a newspaper article that I want to share and it's too big to fit in my scanner. I took a pic of it and posted it in test forum, but you can't read the text. It's too small.

Is there anything that can be done?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Can you cut it into sections? Or since you have a scanner, you probably also have OCR software - you might see how accurate it translates the text.

Melody, was the picture bigger before you posted it? The forum automatically resizes pictures when they are posted. If you upload it to your journal, does it come out any better?

The journal entry isn't clear enough either...will try to cut and scan.

I can't seem to get a scanned image to upload. I know that I've done it before ,but these won't 'take'.It asks me if I want to save my downloaded file to a disc...and this is while I'm trying to upload.

Can I just send you the article Dave?

I got a plug in for DG and even wore my DG tee shirt! The Paducah Sun has a pretty big circulation and would love to share the text along with the pics.

Actually, you were going to get a copy anyway.

Sure, just send me the file and I'll get it uploaded. Send it directly to me. I can't wait to see it!!

I'm sending the actual newspaper article snail mail!

Goes out this afternoon!

Okay - no problemo. Note the new address!!

(I figure you already knew that, but just in case you didn't know we'd moved).

Already gone!

And to TX,I might add....heavens Dave,of course I knew you moved!

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

There is another way in most cases, just go to the online version of the newspaper and look up the article.

Love, lavanda

The online version is only available to paid subscribers.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Yep,tried that too.What a bummer.

Just post it wherever you think is best Dave.I have no preference.I'll leave it up to you.

Will do Melody. I'll be watching the mailbox!

Dave

It arrived today!! I took several shots of this and I think I have a good clear image for everyone to read. I have two versions of it, so check the first one, and, if you have trouble reading it, try the second hyperlink. If these still aren't good enough, let me know and I'll make them even better.

Mel - this is a great article! Congratulations!

Dave,I'm afraid I really can't read either very well. The second one has a sort of jumbled picture like it didn't load properly.

I can read it just because I already know what it says. What about posting the pic and I'll just re-copy the text in the message box.

Your pics are better than mine by a long shot.I think that may be the best solution,as people are using all sorts of monitors with varying degrees of resolution.

I'll copy the text after you post the pic...how's that sound?

Thanks for all you and Trish do...I don't get to say that in public often enough...you have built a wonderful community here and it's because you are doing something you love...it's not just a business for y'all.

I can read both just fine. If anything the smaller one was better becase the paper was flatter.
Interesting article and great photos.

Melody, congratulations on your article. I managed to read the first link. I still have a block for green tomatoes, they just don't look ripe!!!! I try one or two heirloom tom. each year. Very interesting. Donna

Great! glad that y'all can read it.

The reporter took about 2 hours and tried to be very thorough.

There were a few teeny things that only a serious heirloom collector would catch, but for the general public,I thought it was really nice.

Thanks so much!

I read it just fine too. Looks good to me! (first one was best for reading.)

Congrats Mel! Love to read that stuff! Great pics too! Keep it up! Good Goin'!

Tip; after goin to either of the links Dave posted above, right click the image of the paper, save it to yer desktop or some other place you'll remember, then open the image usin yer foto editing software and magnify it to suit yer eyeballs, you may also want to increase/decrease lighting and contrast.

A very neat, and I think important, hobby ya have there Melody! I friend of mine from college gave me some heirloom mater seeds that she said had been in her family around 75 years. She said they were of the roma variety. We're eatin on them now but they don't look like any romas me or DW are accustomed to seein, they have a different shape. We use em as slicers too.

Mel, that's wonderful - kudos!!! Great pictures and I hope it'll encourage some of the newspaper's readers to become interested in heirloom veggies!

(Getting in a plug for DG was just icing on the cake :o)

Mel congratulations, great pictures and article.
