MaryE I didnt mean my user name. Afterall how could I be anything else?? I meant my trading name :)
Hello! :)
Good Morning Everyone :)
I am a 43 year old Female, almost 43;)Lav
I promise I'm not a threat to anybody, I'm here to learn some gardening tips and hopefully make a friend or two. or three or four :)
Hi George, Nice to meet you and thanks for the welcome!
Weez, I would definatly be in a coat, I'm one of those cold blooded types, I do work up a sweat, but once I get still, out comes the sweater, I sleep with an electric blanket year round, my poor Hubby just LOVES that! You are right, it's what your used to.
How about ya'll come me Vick, short for Vicki, everybody else does.
I wish you all a good day:)
Vick (narc)
HI Vick great to have you with us.
An electric blanket all year round!! around here they would say you are nesh!! LOL
Last night our temperatures dropped and it was the first time I had slept with a cover on for weeks! :))
I'm a weanie, what can I say....
It's miserable being cold all the time, bt the way I am healthy LOL My BP runs something like this 89/55 Ha.
Nesh Huh? I will remember that:)
my mother in law is like you. She comes into our house which is usually really warm and always complains it is cold. She always has to have a scarf around her neck! Makes me feel cold just looking at her!!
me I,m very hot blooded!! ;)
Psilo
My husband is a Hot blooded one himself, he just rolls his eyes at me.
So Psilo, what is that you do for a living or are you independantly wealthy???
:) Vick
Independantly wealthy?? I wish!!
according to my husband I dont do anything!! :))
though in my spare time I run 2 businesses (one is a specialist seed business) the other a portraits commission business. I have 3 full allotments which measure 900 square metres in total where I garden for pleasure and for business. I also have 3 children 10, 9 and 5 and a household to run.
when I am not doing that you may also find me writing a new Website which is due out very shortly as my business is to take on a whole new look!
Well Girl we can dream cant we?????
Seeds, OH BOY please tell me what you have.
My son just turned 21, he's been on his own since he was 19, has a pretty decent job, and is a musician on top of that.
You sound like a busy lady and it also sounds like you do it all very well. I will go check out your members page.
Take Care:)
Vick
I was intrigued by "nesh", so I went searching for an American - English dictionary and ran across http://www.peak.org/~jeremy/dictionary/dict.html which translates nesh to wimp.
Cool site - Amazing how we don't speak the same tongue.
P.S. I was just funnin' ya about the silo. I love our language and all the twists and turns you can take with it.
Remember "Caesar rained because the people haled him"
Nesh, weanie, wimp all the same, don't ya think?
George, thanks for the link, it is funny how we don't speak the same, but in this case it was right on target.
Vick
I guess you're not an Elliot Ness, more like a Nessie (shy monster)
Me..shy No Way. I don't meet a stranger :)
Everyone looking for help with their hydroponics, grow
lights, and marijuana seeds better look elsewhere!! ;~)
Sorry-couldn't resist...a warm welcome from the hot and
dry and sooner or later very cold Canadian Prairies!
You will love it here Narc...your garden will never be
the same!
Narc and George even in the UK we have very different dialects. Nesh is a northern saying. I am a yorkshire lass but now live in Lancashire! Many southerners would look as blank faced as you all if you came out with that one!! LOL
Many thanks for the link George. I am learning constantly about the differences in British and American words. I still havent got to the bottom of the true nature of biscuits (but that is another story!)
Vick, I am very busy but I am the master of flitting around. At this time of year I have to harvest the seed, dry the seed, clean the seed and store the seed. This can be very monotonous not to say back breaking so I do it in stages in between the washing, the cleaning, the cooking.... LOL I also flit backwards and forwards to the computer which is always on in the main room. Then I go onto the next stage of my painting that is set up and so on... I think I have a short attention span and can never stay with one thing too long. GUess I must have been a butterfly in a earlier life!! LOL I also have to pace myself too, though Im not very good at that, because my health isnt good. Some days I work very hard but sometimes for days on end I have to rest and sleep. My husband says I never know when to stop but I guess we are all, who we are meant to be!
actually I think my members page might be rather outdated. I have moved on an awful lot since then...
Your son is a musician? What does he play?
Morning :)
Lilypon, Thanks for the Canadian welcome!
Psilo, You are a busy one for sure, I'm sorry to hear your health gets you down at times, it sucks to get older and not be able to have the endurance we once had.
You are right about being who we are meant to be.
Yes My son has been playing the drums since he was 12, all in local bands around this area, he has even played in a local Polka band and has 2 albums (CD's) out. In this part of Texas there is a lot of German descent, his last name is even German, his fathers Grandparents came from Germany.
I have some English in me, Gilbert was my Grandfathers name.
I hope you and all have a nice Tuesday :)
Take Care,
Vick
Narc! but I am not old!! :( I am a very young 30 something !:O and I have been ill on and off for the last 6 years triggered by a bout of meningitus. I have learned to live with it but have yet to really master the art of pacing myself!! :))My trouble is that I am stubborn and dont like to admit I am not strong enough to do something!! I usually do it in the end it just takes alittle longer than most.:S
Good to hear your son is so successful. It must make you feel so proud! :)
I think I am of german ancestry too but I am not certain.
Psilo
Hon, I never meant you were old, just as we age we don't have the endurance as we once did. I'm truely sorry if I hurt your feelings.
I am glad to hear you are stubborn, I am too. We must keep up the fight!
Vick
psilo, Fires are a constant concern in summer. It is very smokey today, the light wind is from North instead of usual South. There is a large lightning started fire (from June 29) burning to the northwest. The firefighters are only patroling it now. it has been contained, but they say will be burning until the snow puts it out. Two years ago there was a lightning caused fire due north of here, came within about 2 blocks of my house. The fire fighters made me take my dog and leave for about an hour, then the wind switched and it was put out and I could come back home. Very, very scary. Donna
Vick you didnt hurt my feelings at all. What I meant was I may be young but alot of the time I feel like I am 90! :)though I guess alot of people do at times :))
sometimes I watch my children playing and wish a had even a small amount of their energy but I suppose I must have really or else things wouldnt get done.
Donna !! :O that sounds really scary, heres hoping the fires stay well out of your area :(
we had a very dry spring and alot of our moors burned but then alot of those where set deliberatly! :O
Wow! I know controlled burns are done in a lot of places, but never thought it would be done in UK -- I just imagined it to be too damp for a worthwhile fire.
Psilo, I never knew the reason for your difficulties was from meningitis. (((( hugs )))) My mother had students (she was a special education teacher, deaf and deaf handicapped) who contracted it in infancy or childhood, and were left profoundly handicapped. I am so thankful to know that you came through without some of the worse problems.
I know what you mean about feeling old some days. Yesterday was one of my antique days: felt about 90 most of it :( High heat, humidity, air pollution, not to mention being bad and eating a tomato! I couldn't resist, ate only a small one, but boy did I pay for it.
Hope your painting continues to come out the way you want; I look forward to seeing its progress. If the Internet difficulties permit!
Lupine there are 2 different sorts of Meningitus, bacterial and Viral. Bacterial is the one that can kill you and leaves the majority of its sufferers with severe disabilities. I was one of the lucky ones I had viral meningitus which although from a recovery view is bad enough, fatalities and permemnt disabilities are not as pronounced. It mucked up my brain for a very long time. I suffered from seizures and acute hyperventilation for a few years and was making a good recovery until I suffered from a severe anaphalactic shock that put me in hospital for 3 days. The trauma to my system (say doctors) was too much and my immune system started shutting down. I was ill with tonsilitus for 3 months and a chest infection for 3 weeks. Fybromialgia and clinical depression took over and I have been in recovery ever since. Fybromialgia is incureable and you have to learn to live with it with active pain management and any kind of therapy that works for you.
Dont get me wrong I am not bleating or saying isnt it terrible what I have been through. What is done is done.I live each day as it comes and try to keep my mind as positive as I can.
Psilo, it sounds like you take great pride in what you have accomplished. I truly hope that this is true, because you should be very proud. We are all blessed to have you here to share your knowledge and experience.
I suppose I am George I have never really thought about it before. I know it has made me a stronger person. We all have bad things happen in our lives but as long as we can learn from them or take something positive from them then we will come away stronger.
Just now getting around to this thread. Welcome Narc/Vick...My name is Vicki too and yes, my friends call me vic as well :-). I live in North Carolina and we have had LOTS of rain this year after a 5 year drought and we are so thankful. Isn't DG just the BEST! Have a GREAT weekend and so sorry for the belated welcome!
psilo, glad for you to have had as much recovery as you did. Hope everything is much better for you from now on. Do take care and know that we think good thoughts for you Donna
thanks Donna :))
Hi Vic
Thanks for the welcome. I have been so busy at work that I haven't had a chance to get back here to respond. I'm glad to hear you recieved rain this year, we may get some today, it's in the forecast anyway.
Take care:)
Vick/Narc
Well welcome, come on in and pull up a chair while I tell you how much fun you can have here, how addictive it can be....naw!!!! It's much more fun to find out for yourself.
I would have been here sooner but my puter had to go back to the shop and dealing with all the flooding here has taken up most of my time.
Good Morning
Windsurffer thanks for the welcome. The past few days at work have been hectic, the "worm" got us and it seems that as soon as one problem is fixed another comes up.
I hope all are well and somebody is enjoying a little cooler weather, cause we sure aren't :)
Take care,
Vick/Narc
Vick don't feel bad I just got my computer back from the shop this Monday, I think I went into total withdrawal lol.
Good to see you back and posting.
Wind, I was lucky here at the house, no worm, but it seems to have crippled our service at work, the phone has not stopped ringing, today was a state holiday and I took it, I needed to get dirty today!!!
I planted 12 Sombac Jasmian, 10 Asian Jasmine, and I have 3 Rose Bushes that had a name of La Marnie ( I think that is what was written on the I.D.) It wil be 4 to 6 feet tall and about 4 feet wide, has small faded pink flowers, I was told at the nursery it is an antique.
I did a search and can't find it on here, have you ever heard of this type of rose?
I better go fix supper. Have a good evening :)
Take Care
Vick
HI NARC, WELCOME AND PLEASED TO MEET YOU :)
Hi Tootsie
Please to meet you too :)
Thanks for the welcome.
Narc
Vick, welcome to Dave's Garden. Lots of wonderful people here. Hope you make yourself a permanent fixture.
Sometimes you just have to take a little time to enjoy yourself.
I haven't heard of that rose but I am sure someone can answer that question in the rose forum.
I bought a rose last year tagged with a picture of a beautiful yellow rose and named yellow rose of Texas. I was so happy but once it bloomed it was a deep red. To this day I don't know the name of it but I did give it one, I call it beautiful red.
Wind
You are sooooo right, it helps to clear the cobwebs of this hectic life.
I'm sorry to hear you purchased yellow and it turned out to be red, but I am sure it is beautiful.
I'm not into roses to much, but these really caught my eye, I will follow your suggestion and post on the rose board.
Hi Leaflady, Thank you for the welcome, I hope to learn lots of things here.
I wish you all a good day :)
Narc/Vick
I hope you can find the name of your rose but if you can't you can always come up with a name for it lol.
I love roses but I just have fun growing them and if I don't have a name so what as long as I like it.
If you will click on my name it will take you to my home page there you will find a photo of a rose that I can't find a name for. I haven't decide what to call it, I might call it The Unknown Rose lol.....good luck.
Hi Wind
What a pretty rose, looks to be a "Salmon Beauty" I just made that up ;) Ha!
I hope you don't leave the forum. I have no idea what has happened. If you would like please e-mail me and I will listen, that is because you seem to be a sincere person and I will be happy to just listen.
Take Care
Narc/Vick
Oh Vick it's so nice of you to offer but I think I just want to away from the problem for a while.
