I just wanted to say Hello and I look forward to conversing with all of you. This looks like an awsome sight!
I love to plant and work in my yard. I am in the Coupland, Tx area. Rich blackland here, but cracks the size of your foot right now as we haven't had much rain.
I have just tilled up a brand new flower area that is the size of a small lot, I plan on filling it up slowly with different heat loving plants.
I wish you all a good day and happy growing!
Narc
Hello! :)
Hey Narc,Nice tag,Welcome to Daves!we have a welcome mat forum also, jump over and say Hi,if you have not already.
Lots of Great folks, info and laughs here!Enjoy!
Hello Narc - another Texan. Quite a few here at DG. Are you having the storms that Aimee is experiencing?? Not nice, not nice at all!! Welcome!! :-)
Hey Narc! Nice to meet you! Say, is somebody soliciting Texans to join so you can keep up with us Ohioans?? LOL Glad you are here! Many to meet, lots to read. What do you like to grow?
Hello again and thanks for the nice welcome.
Rootgarden: I will head over to the welcome mat as you suggested, thanks.
Louisa,
No we aren't having any storms in my area, even tho Georgetown and Austin are within 30 miles of me we haven't had the bad weather. We had a drop or two last night and this morning, but just enouph to make the dirt on my truck stand out.
Badseed, I was doing a search on Duranta and Daves garden came up, it is so cool to see all the beautiful pictures and all the info that is out here in cyberspace.
I have quite a bit of Lantana and Crepe Myrtles, along with a variety of other things I am watching grow.
I have a lot of the Duranta as well, it does so well here and so many people have never heard of it, I needed to show a picture to my co-workers and that's why I did a search.
I just started this new bed next to our horse pasture, so I want to be careful not to plant to close to the fence or any thing that may be posionous, I will probably line that side with a path of rocks. I have so much I want to do, gee I wished I didn't have to work for a living :)
Whiterose, thank you for the welcome.
I looked over the hardy zone map and I believe I am in the moss colored area of Texas, would this be 8a or 8b? Wiliamson County.
Again thank you all for the welcome!
Narc
Hi, Narc! How great to have someone in Coupland. I love it over there. Used to have a friend who lived in a huge old wonderful house that was built about 1903, and I house sat for her and wandered over her 15 acres. I don't know how to tell you where it was, but could go to it.
I'm dieting now, so can't come over for barbecue, but maybe I will just look the other way and drive out with a few things. I love our wildflowers, and have a few seeds if you need them. You probably have your own, though.
Email me! There are several of us near enough to visit, but I keep losing track of everyone.
Hi Narc! When you find a good link to the Duranta (huh?) post it for those of us with a burning desire to know!
and, by the way, Welcome :) ((( Narc )))
Kathy lupinelover (yet another Ohio DG'er)
Hello, narc, and welcome from East Texas. You'll love Dave's Garden. Some great folks here and the best information available at any price.
Bill
Good Morning All :)
Aimee, We are actually 6 miles from Coupland, we sit right in the middle of cotton country. Coupland is a nice little town, I hope their growth doesn't boom the way Pflugerville ( my home ) and Round Rock has, way to many people!
We got rain last night!!! .5, but I will take it!
I had planted earlier in the day and was really hoping we would get a little drink.
Lupine,
So far this has been the best sight for Duranta, mine are about 4 foot tall and just bushy and full of flowers, and I hardley ever water them, I always cut them back when it gets cooler and in the spring they just go crazy!
Hi etexbill
I was in your part of the state back in May, we went down to Coushatta to have a little vacation, thanks for the East Texas Welcome!
Back to work today, YUK! oh well, I have to pay for all those plants!
Thanks again for the welcome Aimee, Lupine and Bill.
Ya'll have a good day :)
Welcome aboard, narc!!! Please visit the Roundup Forum too, we're having a get together Oct. 5 at Ladybird Johnson Park if you would care to join us for some conversation and plant swapping....also another planned for Sept. 14 at Lake Texoma......hope to meet you at one or both!!!
"eyes"
Offering a warm welcome to you :)
You'll like it here. Lots of wonderful people!!!
Good Morning
Eyes and Flo, Thank you for the warm welcome and invitation.
I will look into it.
We ended up with an inch of rain from yesterday and the day before. It's amazing to me how everything always looks perkier after a good rain.
Wishing all a good Friday :)
Narc
Hi Narc good to see you! I am one of the few europeans on this site. We may be far away but DG brings us all so much closer together.
I look forward to hearing your comments and seeing your photos too :)
WELCOME
Hi, there, Narc -- Another Ohioan chiming in with greetings. We just had a real gullywasher of a rain today, but it went through quickly. We've all been the Soggy Bottom Boys out here this spring and summer!
Welcome to DG Narc :), from the upper desert of So. Calif.
Kathy check this http://www.floridata.com/ref/d/dura_ere.cfm http://www.hear.org/pier/duere.htm
Good Morning :)
psilo....nice to meet you. I wished I had a scanner for pics, I have seen some really beautiful photos on this sight. I hope I will have something to offer the way so many of you do.
Gardenwife....Hi to You :) so much rain can make a person miserable, I know when I can't get outside for a few days it can be depressing. I like the rain, but sunshine is what I need.
MaVieRose.... Hi:) A friend of mine just went back to the Palm Springs area of CA. She says temps of triple digits are very common there, I thought we had the heat, I guess not. That was a wonderful link on Duranta, thanks for sharing.
Than you all for your nice words.
I wish all a good weekend.
Take care
Narc
Thanks for the link, MaVie :) Looks like a great plant for warmer climates. Yet another plant for me to covet! LOL Anyone come build a conservatory for me so I can grow these beauties?
Good morning, narc. About the triple digit temps in Palm Springs. It's a dry heat. They don't have the high humidity that we have in Texas, which means 105 in Palm Springs is more comfortable than 95 with the high humidity. here.
Bill
Narc... yes we do have triple digit temperatures here. although we have dry heat, the winds are constantly blowing, so it isn't that bad really. when we have cloudy weather is when it sucks cause of the humidity and no winds. the past few days, we have been experiencing over 110*F. that temp. is a bombmer cause it has been killing a lot of my plants :(. we rarely have rain in this area cause the surrounding mountains blocks the rain from coming in.
u're welcome Kathy :), as always when i find good sites, i will always share. i sure could use a conservatory or a green house at the rate the weather has been going of late.
Narc recently there was a thread here about how you chose your user name. Narc to me conjures up images of a character from literature but cant quite remember why? though maybe here it is short for Narcisus? anyway would love to hear your story :)
Welcome to the Garden, Narc. Hello from Seward, Alaska. What fun... a new flower bed... so may possibilities. Good luck with your project.
Hola, Narc!
welcome. Ni e to have another Texan here ... we need to catch up to those Ohioans who appear to have eight ohioans per square mile on DG.
Where IS Coupland ? Sorry to be ignorant.
Hope to see you at one or both of the TX roundups this fall.
(oh, and I can spell but not type ;-))
Love, Lavanda
Hi there Narc. A warm welcome from Canada.
Narc, welcome to DG, you will love it. In my desert area of WA we are in our fourth no rain year. The droughth this year has been severe. All of the rest of you talking about your rain sure make me envious. We had a cloudy day today, a respite from our triple digit heat. Received 2!!!! drops of rain. Again welcome. Donna aka rutholive
Donna no rain!! how on earth do you garden under those conditions? when is the rain expected to come? and what are your winters like?
Hi narc!!
Welcome to the madhouse of DG :-D
Happy gardening!! I suppose that's the only thing you can wish anybody in TX whether they have a garden or not .. isn't it?
There are so many Texans on here now, I reckon were only missin' George Dubya or his missus, then we've gottem all ... y'all
Wintermoor
Good Morning
I just turned the sprinkler on, it is my day to water and I figured I better get a jump on it, I don't like being on mandatory watering one bit, but what can ya do?
My friend in CA called yesterday and said they had some flash flooding earlier in the week, that it was really bad, but she was ok.
I cannot imagine what it would be like not to sweat when outside in the heat, I would more than likely end up with heat stroke in that dry heat! LOL
Psilo... Not really any story behind the username narc, I work in the narcotics field of Law Enforcement and happened to be at work when I registered, I should have picked something more in tune with gardening.
Weez...thanks for your well wishes, Alaska has to be a challenge with gardening, and how do you handle the cold?
Lavanda...Your not ignorant, there are many places in our Great State that I have no clue where they are either. Coupland is Northeast of Austin, I am 22 miles from my work which is in Austin, so it's not to bad driving in.
Hi Broots, I here Canada is a really pretty place, Thanks for the warm welcome.
Donna...No rain would scare me to death, I would constantly be concerened about fire. I will keep you in my prayers for rain. Thank you for you welcome to the sight.
Wintermoor...thanks for the welcome! You might be surprised to see all the wonderful gardens here, and then the crops that are grown here as well. I'm right in the heart of cotton country and I do believe this years cotton crop will be the best they have seen in a few years.
You know George could be on here, maybe he post's about cedars and how to get rid of them LOL.
Thanks again for all of ya'lls kind words. I really appreciate the welomes from all of you.
Happy Sunday :)
Narc
Happy Sun/watering day narc ;-)
Wintermoor
Well Narc that is your story. It doesnt matter how mundane, Its still your name! :)) thankyou for sharing that with us.
Mind you if you are in Narcotics I think I will give you a wide berth!;)
with a name like mine many make incorrect assumptions!! LOL
I thought a psilo was where you stored grain?
What does psilo mean?
Narc, welcome to DG - I too was at work when I picked my name. It would be nice to change it. Maybe George4Garden?
no somewhere you store grain is called a silo! no P :)
My name Psilo stands for Psilostemon one of my favourite hardy geraniums of which I have hundreds!
but the word psilo also relates to hallucinagenic drugs/mushrooms I believe and more than a few people have been in touch asking if I am involved in this. Needless to say they always get short shrift from me!!
Hi, Narc. We have no problem handling the cold in Alaska... however do you handle the heat in Texas! LOL! Actually, our temps are pretty moderate here in Southcentral Alaska. Our summers seldom get above 70F, and our winters range in the 30's with occasional drops to the teens.
However, if you visited Seward, you'd probably be wearing a coat while the locals were in tee-shirts, and if I visited Texas, I'd have heat stroke! I guess it's all a matter of what you are used to.
Those Pacific Ocean currents really help to keep coastal temperatures moderate - from Alaska to Central America.
You CAN change your name on here, ya know?
narc, are you M or F ? Just being nosey.
Lav
talking of name changes psilos will very shortly cease to exist! and I will be trading under a brand new name!!
What ye goin' tae call yersell then? after all of them halugonm ... halugor ... DRUGS ... how about marryjananny;-)
Winterspaced
Not sayin Its a closely guarded secret! :P
Pislo ;S
I hear that Dave will let you change your screen name once, so think about it carefully.
Wintermoor:
At least He or she was'nt on the the forum when Evert was posting all the pic's last year of his "Babies". All male plants, that is.
