House rockin' storm here!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Last night, it was Austin being beaten again by the weather, although I had some significant winds. Tonight, now, it's me! This rock house is rocking! I know it won't last long, but for now it's a frog strangler, and the thunder is, well, thunderous. So I'm out of here, friends, seeya!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

It has to be bad if you are actually commenting on it Aimee since you are not normally unduly worried about storms. You can't see this since you've logged off but I do hope you stay safe and get back soon so that we know all is well. I hate them...storms. After the blistering heat, one is sure to follow!!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, it was a doozy! It didn't last long, but what a storm it was. Remember when my roof blew off? It leaked all over again in the dining room in just a few minutes. You would have thought I was possessed, as I frantically tried to contain and protect things. When I got it as well under control as possible, I went out on my porch and shared it with the cats. It turned really cold for a few minutes, and the rain was just a wild thing. No hail this time, just rain. It's still sort of drizzly and feels like a fall day out.

I will be really happy when I finally get the permanent roof on, but having grown up in old country houses prepared me for this and it's sort of fun knowing I can cope with those bizarre elements. No, don't send the men with the little white coats, I'm not dangerous as long as I have my meds, hehehe.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

ROTFL.........you're too funny Aimee. Don't worry, I'll beat those men in their white coats off with a huge stick for ya

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, I guess it hit us first.

It woke me up when the lightning started: there was no thunder to go with it. I kept owndering if suddenly someone had erected an airport light tower or sumthin. FINALLY the thunder started and the sound of the beautiful rain. Not a lot of wind but that is OK.

It didnt rain that long but we got rin and it cooled off.

I am convinced summer is weakening and willg o n her merry way one of these days soon.

We also had a storm on Monday evening which ushered out the canicula (dog days)!

me so happy. Me hibernate in summer.

Lavanda, they keep saying the triple digits will return, but I hope you're right. I have seen this little pattern before, though, and it could very well be back up there in a week. Fine, I'll take this for now and deal with the rest when it happens.

Yes, according to the telly, the same system you had was the one here, but the wind was unbelievable. For the second night, I might, although last night was stronger here than the night before. Poor NW Austin, they are a mess, and the crews are still working to clear South Austin after last Friday. Just a little north of my son's house, a large shop building just disappeared. No one knows where it went, it's just not there! This was said to be a microblaster, not a tornado, but it felt like a serious deal. When that thunder boomed, this old house just boogied.

Lindale, TX(Zone 8a)

Aimee and Lavanda. We had the same thing Monday. Large hail south of Tyler, heavy winds with the roof blown off a restaurant with 25 people inside in Tyler, trees blown down here in Lindale, and 1.4 inches of much needed rain. Would you believe the leaves on the persimmon trees at the farm are beginning to turn yellow and fall off just like Autumn!

Yep we are getting brown leaves too, but some are those trashy hybrid poplars which usually turn brown and drop leaves about this time of year.

And if it gets hot again, that is just the way Texas is ... but the little breaks of cooler, and wetter weather are certainly welcome and get us out of the summer doldrums!

Bill, I had seen Monday on the telly that what happened was, there was alow pressure systym out your way, and a high pressure one in West TX, and they were converging and causing all these thunderboomers.

We have all expereinced here in Tx that thang where the
dry line (where the two systems meet) goes back and forth back and forth over our heads, and the weather keeps changing from one type to the other.

Even tho the temps this summer have not been as bad as
usual, I am ready for the change such as we are experiencing right now!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

These little weather systems really wreak havoc with my joints and muscles. And the barometric pressure keeps me from sleeping, even though it's raining. Next, the mold builds up in the air, and I have to take allergy pills that make deep sleep impossible. Why, oh, why do I stay here? Because my heart is deep in the heart of Texas?

Lindale, TX(Zone 8a)

Aimee: I know just what you mean, "why, oh why do I stay here". I've traveled all over, and when I've been in places like Switzerland or Bermuda, I ask myself "why do I stay in Texas". Then, when I get home, I think, " you know, I love this place"! Must be something in the water.

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

And we would never letcha go!

It is starting again here right now.

Not yet used to predicting weather with my body, I didnt connect the pains in my bones/legs Monday and last nite
till late. ONce the lightning started I could not sleep at all!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Lavanda, I am a regular weather station. I can feel the storms at least three days in advance. Sometimes, I don't know something is brewing and affecting the pressure, and I will just ache and be irritable and toss and turn. This was one of the times when I knew it was out there, but there is nothing to do but ride it out.

We're getting another little flurry right now. My yard, amazingly, is soaked and there is water standing on the paths. This is rare in any month, but August has to be the rarest for these rains.

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Yesterday we had one at about 5pm. Since the weather was so much more plewasant than usual, I had gone to a nursery just to look (!- NOT) and it started ...there was a little flash-flooding in some streets, unusual, since we are not saturated yet (far from it), but because it came down so hard so fsst. Over by the time I made it home.

Then again at about 7:30 pm. then it was over.
Then again about 10:30 pm.

It is soooo pleasant today!

Lindale, TX(Zone 8a)

Awww Lavanda. Not a drop here since Monday.

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

But how short are ya'll on year to date annual rainfall?

We are wayyyyy behind schedule.

Was wonderful to talk to ya awhile ago.
