Tornado !!!

St. Louis, MO(Zone 6b)

I had a job commitment in North Palm Beach this weekend so I went down a day early so I could get some of that lovely Florida sunshine (too much rain in the Bronx). Well it was 'chance of rain' when I got there but being a beach bum of the first order I hiked several miles to a beach and got there just in time to see the rain start. I started hiking back to where I was staying and I noticed a strange cloud formation. A large black tubular clowd was dropping down from the bottom of the cloud cover [which was jet black]. It would drop down, almost like a large sausage dropping out of the sky. Then it would remain stationary for a few moments. Then a sharp pointed cloud would emerge from the bottom and extend the cloud down further. This process continued for about five minutes and I suddenly realized I was watching a tornado in formation. I hastened my steps and put out my thumb to hitch hike the several miles back to my lodgings. A young man in a pick-up truck picked me up and delivered me to my door. By this time the entire sky was black and the wind horrible. No sooner had he dropped me off than the sky opened and a torrential downpour spilled upon the entire area. I went to my room and turned on the TV. It was a good fifteen minutes before the TV had reports of a tornado touching down a few miles north of where I was - then 24 hours of damage reports and red cross help for homeless families. I was sooooo grateful that I was able to get a ride back to my lodgings. It was one experience I hope I will not have again. Thank God the very few people were injured. So much for Florida sunshine. Now I'm back in the wet Bronx, safe and sound and more than a little impressed with the power of a tornado.

Sounds like an awesome experience, and one I would not care to duplicate. (You probably don't want to duplicate it either, LOL!)

Sure sounds like someone was watching over you Padre (;

How scary, glad you got back safely.

Padre: What an experience. Tornado's are nothing to fool with. We've had several small ones go over our house. Glad you got that ride safely back to the motel.

Padre, you had a rare experience! I don't believe in coincidence, and I would be willing to bet you will find that this has a purpose in your life. Your description and the attention to detail are marvelous. I'm happy you are safe and that your personal angels were watching over you.

Padre, this was a harrowing experience for you. I've been near tornadoes but never in one. My husband and his father were visiting a neighboring farm when one went through. They could almost see it coming and headed for the house to get to the cellar, fortunately, Stan and his dad each grabbed onto the neighbor's son, who, gripping onto their hands, had a Peter Pan like experience. If they hadn't have held onto him, he would have been gone with the wind - as it was he flew out straight behnd them. Not an experience any of them has ever forgotten, or ever wants to have again.
