Where's the ark???

Cordova, MD

With all the rain we've been getting on the East Coast, I'm beginning to think we need to build an ark... anyone got any ideas??? I know Windsurfer and Louisa might have some big ideas as they've probably been getting the same rain- if not more than I am....
let's see what do we need and what should be take on the ark???

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

instead of building an ark, I think you should just send some of your rain our way!!!!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I thought about building an ark earlier this year when we were getting so much rain. I looked up the directions, but I couldn't figure out what a cubit was. :)

LOL Joan.

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 6a)

I heard on the news that since May we've only had 6 days of sunshine here near Pittsburgh. 6 DAYS!! Everything is saturated. And everyone just laughs when they tell everyone "no standing water" because of the West Nile Virus. We've cut grass more times in the rain than not. **sigh**
Add my name to the ark. :)
MaMa "T" :)

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

In Kansas City we just recorded the driest July EVER recorded. Officially less than 1 inch. Another year of freaky weather. Unfortunately I think strange weather is getting to be the norm the last 7 years or so.

I'm ready with a female cat. We haven't had a day without rain since July 31. I think I'm getting moldy.

JoanJ; cubit; An ancient unit of linear measure, originally equal to the length of the forearm from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow, or about 17 to 22 inches (43 to 56 centimeters).

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Maybe we need a big hydraulic jack under the east coast so the water can flow this way. It is dry here. I'm with Pond, Please send us the rain.

St. Louis, MO(Zone 6b)

I was asked by a friend to do something about the wet weather. I replied that I was in sales not administration :-)

Cordova, MD

Great one PAdre!!! I think the hydraulic jack under the East Coast is an exellant idea!!!
Wish I could bottle up as much of it as everyone needs right how and send it!!
Two horses that are no more than 2 miles from me died of West Nile Virus yesterday. They also did a misquito sampling in our area and found 26,000 caught in a certain time period - last year same time only 1,000!!!!
Send me some insect spray... I have to go out and kill the beetles on my roses!!! Swat, swat,!!
Let's hope the rain stops here for a while- corn crops, etc., are now going downhill bigtime- last year draught- this year swimming!! Maybe it'll get to the West Coast with a stop in Kansas!!!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

And please a stop in Idaho too. Along with a stop in Colorado should make your rain rain go away.

Lindale, TX(Zone 8a)

And don't forget about us folks here in Texas. The little rain that we have received lately has been accompanied with high winds and hail. Don't send that part. LOL

Last year we had a terrible drought and this year we are way over regarding the wet stuff but it's been dry now for a few days and already the ground is cracking up again - daft ain't it!! Jeanne you must organize your garden forays a little better in order to avoid the mozzies (mosquitoes) unless of course you are plagued with them all day. Here it's early morning and in the evenings, so I avoid beetle hunting at such times. This West Nile Virus is really becoming very serious and I was sorry to hear about the horses.

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

We get our mosquitoes anytime we walk through the grass. Unfortunately for us we try to spray for them on our acreage but the county and the neighbors all ignore them. At the grocery store last night I saw dozens of the darned things flying around in the store and had a few want to take a bite out of me.

I am very worried about when the West Nile hits here as my horses live with the darned things and I can't bring them in the house to protect them. DH won't let me.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

One of our friends is in the hospital with West Nile Virus. He's very sick and we are all very worried about him. Up until this happened, I was very lax about using DEET, because I thought it was bad for us. But, now I think it's the lesser of the two evils. Please be safe everyone.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

JoanJ; I'll be keepin yer friend in my thoughts and prayers!!
Skeeters are awful bad here too and I make sure my young-uns are either indoors at peak feedin times or wearin deet if they're out playin! I douse myself in it too!

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Perhaps a bit of good news for those of us with lots of rain this summer: the type of mosquito that carries West Nile doesn't thrive in times of frequent rain and lots of puddles around. I am not sure about the details of why, but sampling done here has shown way more of the wet-land mosquitos that don't carry disease, and many fewer of the kind that do carry disease, including West Nile.

Everyone, be careful with the DEET. Limit your exposure to it to times when you really need it, and only use on areas of exposed skin. Wash it off when you come back inside. Check the CDC website for more information about using it safely.

Unfortunately, I am very allergic to it; I get severe hives, with the potential for my throat closing, so I am limited to a few herbal preventatives.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Good advice lupy! Sometimes I grab a handful of tansy and squash it up, and rub it all over exposed skin when I'm out for just a few minutes, takin a quick foto or sumpin. Seems to work too.
