YAY, summer session is finished for me! Yippee, Fall Semester starts on the 18th... big break. ha ha ha
Are there any other "non-traditional" students out there?
Melissa
Finals Finished!!!
Hi Melissa, What are you majoring in? I retired from BellSouth last year, and I started the nursing sequence in the fall to be a RN. Since I'm 52, I'm about as non-traditional as you can get. Fall semester starts for us on the 18th too, Linda
My major is Secondary Education/History and my minor is Psychology.
I'm going to be a High School Teacher, then a High School guidance Counsellor.
I have 3 semesters of coursework left and then my student teaching. I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel, of course then, I have to start my Masters...
Melissa
Good for you, Melissa! There's nothing like that sense of completion. Boy, good for you going after your degrees. You go, girl!
You know, I still have these awful dreams where I've forgotten about attending classes or just plain skipped them, and they're going to take back my degree. Ooooh, hate that dream! Must be one of those "missing pieces in life" kind of things; I'm on the hunt for whatever it is. ;)
Hey M_O and mk123, howdy gw;
I'm an NTS too! Majoring in English Writing BS (Creative) 47 years young and what a culture shock it is being on the campus of Slippery Rock University! DW says "you can look but you better not touch"!!
Starting as a second semester sophomore on the 25 of this month. I'm ready!
Hey Melissa, way to go. I had been a LPN for 33 years and am now a new graduate nurse. I will sit for the state boards in late Sept. early Oct. I am 53 years old, and it feels great to finally be a college graduate. It was the hardest 2 years of my life, but I am so proud of myself. Keep up the good work.
YAY for you too! I have a lot of friends going through the RN program, and it is sooooooooo hard. You and Mercat both! Amazing!
TC, I'm surprised, My school is pretty evenly split between NTS and Kids. It's been interesting, one of my closest school friends is 19 years old. Amazing that we even have anything in common!
Maybe she's just an old 19 and I'm a young 36?
What are you going to do with your BS degree TC? I thought I'd heard of most colleges within a few states, I don't believe I've heard about Slippery Rock--is it a UK extension? :-)
GW, thank you. I waited for almost 16 years to go back to college, and I'm loving (just about) every minute of it.
You're 36, too, huh? I just turned 36. I sure don't feel like I'm pushing 40! The older I get, the younger I think others are (I think I read Aimee saying that on another post and I sure related). I'd kind of like to go back to school, just for fun more than career. I'd like to take the digital media program over at the technical college and learn really in-depth imaging stuff.
I'm 36 for a couple of more weeks anyway. :-(
You're a creative type, you'd be great at the digital media!
I love school, and I guess it's a good thing... with the changing requirements in Ohio, I'll probably be taking a class the rest of my life.
Everyone is YOUNGER!
all; There's a few other non-traditionals on campus, usually though I'm the oldest in class at 47, as old if not older than the profs sometimes. It doesn't affect me at all though. I've discovered that profs at SRU really enjoy havin NTS in their classroom. We always seem to be the ones to speak out first.
About my degree; I plan on being a writer. Which will include, but not be limited to, journalism, news editor, columnist, gardening articles, reviews, and probably a work of fiction or two, and an autobiography that I've found myself kinda workin on now.
SRU is not an extension of the University of Kentucky. UofK is in Kentucky and I live in PA. I confuse a lot of folks with my "tcfromky" id name.
SRU is located in Slippery Rock Pennsylvania, which is only about 20 minutes from where I live.
I've found the profs enjoy us NTS as well. Most of the profs tell me they would prefer to have a NT over a traditional student.
Good luck TC, I didn't figure it was an extension of UK, I was being facetious. Since I live so close to Kentucky, there were a couple of Kentucky Schools I considered before deciding on Wilmington.
When I was attending college, there was a group called the "returnees". The campus minister had a couple tables set up with a sign: Returnees Corner. It was specifically for NTS and there were always a lot of people visiting there. :)
It took me a while to figure out NTS, but I did. I am quite sure that I am an NT.
I am done with the college work, but I too have recurring dreams about not being able to graduate because I did not attend a class for a semester. Then before I fully awake, I am relieved that I have my diploma. Another dream I have is that I have not turned in a time sheet for several months in a CPA firm that I worked at.
TC, it does not surprise me that you are a writer. I have detected your good grammar along with your southern talk. My hat goes off to you in your endeavor. What have you been doing these last several decades besides gardening, or have you done that for a living?
My best wishes to all my fellow gardeners in your NT pursuits.
Fred
Are there only 5 or 6 of us who are NTS? Melissa, I think it is great that you are going to be a teacher. TC, I got a BA in English a few years ago and everyone said "What are you going to do with it?" I didn't want to teach and I've never been good at writing--my brain is strained trying to think of what to say. But since I've got the BA, I'll only have to have about 4 nursing classes to get my BSN when I graduate from the ADN program next year. So the BA was good for something. Hollyburgh, I think it's wonderful that you are a graduate nurse. Good luck on the boards. Linda
merkat; does seem kinda odd that there ain't been other NTS's that posted yet. I'm glad you stuck with gettin yer BA and I see it's gonna be a big plus for ya havin it to finish yer nursin schoolin ya need!
Not much time before I havta start hittin the books again! I'll sure miss not bein around DG for a spell.
Once school starts, my nose is always stuck in a book and I hardly look up!
TC, I start school next week. I won't have much time to check in here either, but I'm planning on going to the GA roundup in October. Linda
Linda; you have my very, very sweet sister's name!
I'm goin to my first RU down in KY on the 26th of next month. May havta cut one day of classes fer it! :-O
