Haighr you must have changed something else the settings that GW gave are for cookies only.
Go into
-Tools
-Internet Options
-Security tab
-check that the "Internet" Icon is Highlited.
-click on "Default Level"
-Highlite "Trusted Sites"
-click on "Default Level"

Click OK and try again to go to chat

Hope that helps

All was fine until I triend GW way to prevent unwanted email and used the tools, ie options privacy override, 1st. party accept, 3rd party cokies block always allow session cookies ok, ok
Then tried going back and accepting the cookies and the only change is that no more bad emails, but cannot access chat room

Heck with chat, I give up going to bed! Changed to avoid email unwanted, using Ie - went to tools IE options to privacy tab, click advanced, check override automatic cookie handling, first party cookies accept, third party cookies block always allow session cookies, click ok and again ok,
Then cannot access DG chat

haighr
this is not my area of expertise by a long shot, but Active X controls are in the Security section of Internet tools.

click on the security tab, click on the custom level button. The first 5 items seem to deal with active x. mine is set as follows
prompt
disable
disable
enable
enable

which seems to be the same settings for those 5 items as medium security ... if that makes sense. My settings seem to be custom.

I have no idea if this will help or not.

Hmmm haighr I thought you where already in bed thats why I didn't continue right away. Sorry bout that didn't know you wanted to go so badly to the chat.
Go again to
-Tools
-Internet Options
-Security
-Highlite Internet
-click Custom Level
-in the Reset Custom level area on the bottom make sure medium is selected then click Reset then OK(see attached pic circled in green)

You can also manually set the active X components to enabled, just leave the two which I circled red in the pic on disabled.

Hope this time it works, if not scream out loudly LOL

Isn't chat a java app? Does it even require activeX? Nothing I suggested about cookies would make the chat not work, Candee. I have mine set the way I told you, and I am able to chat just fine. Sorry for any confusion.

NP GW, the settings worked great for the email and believe me with all the viagra emails I had been getting the change you suggested is fabulous. Just odd that since I changed that setting, for some reason got that msg of activex and can't access chat. I really don't think I changed anything else. I'll try panamons suggestion when I get home this eve.

Candee,
Try loading the link below
http://www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/vanmap/vanmappub.htm
It's rather large and depending upon you connect speed may take a few minutes, so be patient.
I most likely could have found a smaller one but call it me doing some Canadian PR after SARS and Mad-cow.
Towards the end of the download You should get a screen asking you to confirm installation of an ActivX component. If that shows up and you do not get the other message you had above then your Active X settings are OK. Confirm and agree if you want to continue with the page (you don't have to)
I still do not know why it happend to you and I just can't replicate it (I hate it when that happens :)

Thanks panamon - I'll try that this eve when I get home!
