remember my pink vulcanicola?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I pollinated it with my orange sang awhile back. LOL. I didn't write the date and I can't find the thread I started showing the blooms.

I promptly forgot about it and then today I was moving it and saw PODS!

But then I saw the pods had split and the inner lining was showing.

Here is another one. Almost looks like it is supposed to look like this. What do you think?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

What a great color! I love it!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Kell, is this the thread? http://davesgarden.com/t/382570/Vulcanicola Do vulcanicolas take as long as sangs to ripen?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I think its 9 months...maybe 8......

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Way to go Kell!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gosh, that would mean 6 more months to go. Has anyone ever seen a pod split open like that? I wonder if they will make it then. There is a fruit that looks just like that, or maybe I am thinking of a little white eggplant. LOL

Thanks Poppysue, how smart of you to do a vulcanicola search! Now I know I pollinated the week of May 27th.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Kell, the calyx is what has split, the pod is still intact. Leave it alone till the pedicel turns yellow.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, LOL!! The pods are white instead of green! Sometimes I really have to wonder about myself. I knew they looked very wrong to me,lol. You must admit Susie I have more blonde points than anyone else.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I remember this one Kell-I had to email you because I
wasn't a member and I "had" to know what variety it was.
And I sulked for awhile when I found out it wouldn't do
well here. I love the color!!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Beautiful Kell!!!

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

How exciting, I wish they would grow here!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

How is your pod doing Kell?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

they are great on this one Susie but I just was watering and noticed a pod on my arborea the pedicle was suddenly yellow and the pod squishy. Woe is me. I will email you pics for your advice soon.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Kell, that's how the arboreas do. Has it been about four months since you pollinated it? Arboreas take four months.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Kell,if you really have to get rid of some I know someone who would like a few.......

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It was done the week of May 27th so it is exactly 2 months. So 2 months early.

few what CC?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Didn't someone else have an "early" pod this year? Those sure look ripe. Plant them and see what comes up! Wonder if the vulcanica pollen made them do that?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Seeds kell......

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

How did these do Kell? Its a beautiful brug!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

oh I have lots of little pink vul. seedlings running around. In fact I was staking them earlier. They seem to have weak trunks! The mother has not flowered again. I keep saying I am going to toss her and the yellow one but haven't yet!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

What are your hopes for the seedlings Kell?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

that they did not pollinate themselves but I did with orange sang! LOL. We may get a new color!

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

You know what Kell??? I really don't think that it's fair that you have so many 'pinks'! Do you just walk around in your yard "DROOLING" everywhere? Man, I sure would!!!

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Great job! Yu sew talented! :-)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

We will see how good a job Kyle! LOL

Brinda, I do have lots of blooms but to tell you the truth I am always working now when out in the garden. I can't believe how needy these plants are. Last summer I would sit on my back porch and have enjoy a vodka and lemon. This summer all the chairs are covered with baby brugs. There are brugs all over!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

That makes a true Brug Fan Kell lol!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I think it makes me nuts! LOL

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Kell, we're all a little nuts when it comes to Brugs. LOL

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Take a breather Kell.....have a 'rita' and sit back and enjoy all you've worked so hard for! But keep posting those pics... LOL...we can't live without them!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I've never had a seed pod, this year is the first that I've had more than one brug. Right now, I have a spent blossom that has a green 'thing' growing out the end of the stem of the spent blossom. The green part is very young/small, it's not even thislong. Do you think it might be a seed pod forming??? If not, where should I look?? TIA!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That is where the pod would form if it has been pollinated. I've got to throw my paint brushes away or I'm going to have more pods than blooms pretty soon.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Tanks, Brugie!!! I figured I was correct and what really tickles me is that the plant with the pod is waaaaay far away from the other brugs. I have had any number of blossoma on any number of plants and a bazillion bees, so I shouldn't be surprised that a bee traveled that far, but I am!! And, there appears to be several pods on the brug. I can hardly wait to see if there are seed pods on other plants - it doesn't take much for me, ya know??!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I just counted the pods growing on mine and I have 19 definite and some that the blooms haven't fallen from yet. So with all of the marked ones, I could have 26 and I'm just getting started. I now know I've lost my mind.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I looked at mine too and I have 8 on one plant that only had nine blooms; however, some have white on them, does that mean they are albinos or that they are going to fall off, or what??!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That sounds to me like they weren't pollinated. Could be wrong though. Usually if the pollination takes, the pod is green when the flower falls, at least that has been my experience. I've also noticed that it takes much longer for the flower to fall if the pollination has taken.
