The "TODAY SHOW" on Thursday

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

July 31st will feature our area. They came down the bayou to do a story on "Get Away's" and the town of Houma was one town featured. They will show footage from the air as well as bayou sceens. Hope yall get a chance to tune in! The town of Houma is closer to me than the town of Thibodaux. I do all my shopping in Houma, rarely going into Thibodaux. I can't wait to see what they show!

Crossville, TN

I don't even get NBC....but maybe I can go over to DD's and watch it!! Jo

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

justmeLisa; I worked on a pipeline in Conroe, Texas with a guy from Houma, LA. Can't remember his name tho. I'll try and remember and catch some of "The Today Show" on Thursday!

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

WOW.. I am not going to miss that show. I watch TODAY SHOW every days!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Hehe, Mini, I hope you do watch it, but not if it interferes with that baby. When is the blessed event? I'm terrible about keeping these dates well mixed.

Lisa, I rarely watch TV, but I sometimes shopped in Houma when I lived in South Louisiana for a few years. It will be interesting to see it now, over 40 years later. Thanks for alerting us. Did you wave a banner for the cameras so we can spot you?

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

I am on Central Time..it is supposed to air sometime between 8:30-9:30 time slot.

Amiee, no banner here, it was kept very hush-hush when the taping was done. It was taped on the 17th of this month, we just found out about it today on the newpaper. They said the show was off towards Texas to do more taping on other towns.

southeast, NE

Lisa - could you put a reminder on the Farm Life forum on Wednesday? Pretty Please!!!! Even when I am super busy, I will check that forum and maybe I will remember to tape it.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Spent the night in Houma a few years back - I had my first Crawfish there - A huge Beer tray full of them, they were delicious, have tried them several times other places, never that good tho!! It was lunch time, and I guess this was THE place to get them, lots of business types were in there. A neat little town.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I will be at work but will try to catch it anyway. I visited Houma and a museum there and work with another teacher from that area. Will make sure he knows about it. We call him our token cajun.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

weeds; I call em "crawdads" and have ate my share, love em!!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Yep, we have crawdads here too. We try to simulate the bayous.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

wowee, I didn't realize that Houma was such a traveled town!

tcfromky, Houma was/is a big oil town. Most of the area workers are either oil or fisherman. I hope you can recall the family name.

Jewel, I'll be sure to post it on the Farm Life forum..(if I remember..lol)

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

weeds; when Felder was here he asked me what I call them. When I said "crawdads" he told me I was a true hillbilly because Northerners say "crayfish".

justmeLisa; I doubt if I'll ever recall that fellers name! It was quite some time ago, and as they (whoever "they" are) say; memory leaves as one ages!
The only reason I remember him now is because he would always fall asleep sittin on the D-8 dozer and we'd have to throw dirt clods at him to wake him up and move us ahead as we coated the pipe!

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Been to Houma since Daddy's family is around Hessmer!

What I most remember is the French-language radio station with cajun music on it!

Only thing Gramma listened to, and I picked up the habit.

We need to go back for a visit when we can. Life is too short!

lisa: I was in sales in the oil industry for many years and had several customers in Houma. We had a warehouse in Berwick. I really like that part of Louisiana and still have several friends in Baton Rouge and Gonzales. I also have a friend from Homer in far North Louisiana. Now that's a whole different world from South Louisiana as you know. LOL

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

tcfromky - Crayfish, crawfish, crawdads, mudbugs, poor man´s lobster...whatever you call it, boiled and spiced-up just right makes for some delicious eating.

justme - during the 80's I spent lots of time in Shrevesport and Houma selling - hate to say it but - airplanes! Used to fly at night from Shrevesport to Houston and watch the cane fields being burned. Never will forget those times.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Dea; sounds like you just mite know how to cook up a mess! What times supper (or is "supper" called "dinner" up in your neck of the woods?)

I remember one old boy I worked with on that Conroe pipelinin job. He was from South Louisiana somewheres. Anywho, at lunch one day he proceeded to unwrap this meatball lookin piece of stuff and started eatin it. We were all good friends and usually offered one or the other a bite of somethin we was eatin on, especially iffin one asked "what's that?". I love meatballs so I asked him what kind of meatball he had. He offered me a bite of it and I politely accepted, expectin to taste somethin akin to what I thought was a "regular" kind of meatball. Y'all know the kind I mean, ones you use in speghetti that's make from ground meat.
Well, his meatball wasn't that kind at all!! He called it (not sure iffin the following is spelt right) "boudan". It was actually the innards from a hog (I think) all rolled up in a ball! I didn't really care fer it, but it didn't make me gag or nuthin.
Any of y'all Louisianans know 'bout this "boudan" delicacy?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Whooooweeee! Won't touch em! Basically pork liver mixed with a bit of pork meat and then mixed with rice, herbs. Can't do it! LOL - I'm sure this is a delicacy, but this particular smellicacy I'll live without!

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

tc, there was much discussion about boudin here a while back :http://davesgarden.com/t/370524/ I would have told you the same thing he did so I wouldn't have to share and have it all to myself. hehehe

oh, you might like this one too: http://davesgarden.com/t/26850/

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Rats, I forgot about it and it's over here.
TC, we ate Boudin balls when we went to see Lisa. I had no idea what they were made of but I thought they were good.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

it was a short clip, blink your eyes and you missed it!

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

I missed it too! :~(

Susie; It was so long ago that I first tasted boudin that I've mostly fergot exactly how they tasted. I'd be willin to try em agin sometime tho.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

TC, it was really good. The crawdads were too.

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Quite by accident I saw it, but was disappointed there wasnt more...and so true Lisita, if you blinked, you missed Houma!

They showed a quick shot of that one little cafe.

It did cause me to remember that in about a986, we went on vacation to see the realtives and went on a boat tour of the Atchafalaya as they showed today. I had totally forgotten about it!

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Lisa,
We will be comin'' great ad for your area. Exactly what we would like to do for a vacation! Great promo for your area; but they didn't mention enough about the great food there!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I saw it and I was sure disappointed at how fast they went through the bit about the area. I was hoping to see more of the countryside and bayous. It did sound like a great place to visit though. How are the mosquitoes there? (as I sit and scratch the 10,000 bites I got tonight here.)

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Drats Lisa - then that's how I missed it right!!!! :-)

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Pondy - and the HUMIDITY !!!!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

I can deal with the humidity for a couple of days but I sure won't like being on vacation and getting myself eaten alive just like at home. LOL Darned mosquitoes anyhow!!!!
