What can I say? Didn't find this forum until just now after receiving an e-mail from rootdoctor. First, thank you all for your thoughts and good wishes. It is so great to know I have friends out there.

Only had one daughter here for this birthday, one of them from Atlanta, the other in Atlanta is in the midist of getting ready for her duagther's wedding, the 9th of August.
Another is in Oregon and we will see her in Atlanta the week of the wedding.

It was a great birthday, quite a few phone calls from family and friends. I should send each one of you an e-mail thanking you for your thoughts. Two days ago I could have done it easily but nowwwwwwww I is an old man of 80 and can hardly get around. LOL My first 80 years have been great and I hope the next ?? years will be just as great. I am still very young at heart and am now taking a computer drafting course. Since I am in my second childhood I want to be prepared for a career when I grow up again.

Since rootdoctor showed a painting of a sailing ship I will post a painting of the one I was on and depicts July 14, 1942 as we were off Cape Horn.

Sparks

Dang, thought I was just inserting the picture of the ship not the whole book cover.

Glad you posted the book, Sparks. I read it folks...purty interesting reading!

The big 8-0, eh? I'm sure your next 80 years will be grand! Just think, you started out your first 80 years completely bald, no teeth, couldn't talk, couldn't walk. At least starting out this next 80 you can talk and walk! ;>)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Still roll when I think of the maggots in the spitoon - then convincing poor Archie to de-worm himself LOL

Sparks - you really did crack the mold some 80 years back !!
