Clearing out watched threads

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Is there a way to review all my watched threads to unwatch the inactive ones or the ones I no longer want to follow? I thought about doing a search with my name but I am watching threads that I am not responding to so those wouldn't show up. Also is there a time limit on threads? Do they disappear off the face of the earth (or off DG anyway) after a certain amount of time with no activity?

NoH2O-If you click on "Member Page" in the right-hand menu list (under About You) then you'll find the option to "View the Threads you are Watching". You'll then get a full list but to unwatch them you have to click each one and the click "Unwatch Thread" at the top of the thread page. Brenda

Thanks Brenda. You are all so efficient here at DG I figured there had to be an easier way to do it.

NoH20,

There is no limit on the number of threads on DG. We have lost a couple of posts from time to time due to a server crash, but never many, as nightly backups are always done. There's no technical reason for you to clean up your watched thread list, just for your own convience. I think I do "house cleaning" on mine every 6 months or so- but there is no limit to the number that you can have.

Thanks, Trish. After cleaning up for over an hour last night I am still watching more than a 100 threads! I am glad to know I am not causing some kind of traffic jam with them!!! :>)

OH no! I didn't know this! I have loads. Oh dear....

Just leave them. I am watching well over 1,500 threads. I like it that way, because if someone replies to a thread a year later, I am immediately notified on the front page.

Okay here we go......I wonder who is watching the most threads? Is it Dave at over 1500 or does someone have him beat? Dave, is that something you can find out?

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

I must be a peon!!! I only have 64! LOL!

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

I'm only watching 20, I feel so insignificant *sniff*

I have 880! And I cleared some out this morning when I read this thread. I'm gaining on you Dave!

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

The threads should have to be active in order to win a prize. I just made up this rule and I lose! None of mine are!!

It tells you how many you're watching. I guess I've been around for awhile. I joined when daves was just a wee little site.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

I am watching 111 but I cleared out a bunch last night and I've only been a member since 5/15/03 so I think I should get extra credit.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

NoH20; I joined the day after you! I say you should get extra credit too (make up yer own rules, as Felder says "the rules stink" anyway!)

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

You know TC, if you went into every forum right now and clicked 'Watch' on every thread, you might be the winner!!!!

Cleveland, OH(Zone 5b)

Wow! I only watch 3 or 4 threads at a time!!! LOL I must get bored easily!!!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

so do I celia, that's why I was so surprised at all the old ones.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

NoH2O; if I thought I could read all of them I would! There's so many here that have very interesting and sometimes very strange content!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

You all got me curious as to how many I was watching. 1133!!!

I really wish there was an easy way to take off the ones we aren't involved in anymore, without having to go into every thread and unwatch it. I don't mind during the winter when I have time, but in the summer when I'm busy, it seems that the new posts to my watched threads pile up and I miss lots of the new posts trying to catch up on the old ones. Does this make any sense at all? LOL

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

JoanJ; makes perfect sense to me and I agree with ya!

Someone once pointed out that if you stop watching your old threads - especially those you started - it's possible that someone will come along and post to that thread. You might never know it's been reactivated and that person is hoping you'll read and respond.

(I'm not telling how many I'm watching, but it is a smaller number than Dave, lolol.)

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Terry; good point. (by the way, you and I have the same first name!)
