Picture in PDB Problem

(Zone 5a)

When I post a photo in the PDB and return to it there is no photo there, this link is after I posted photo. http://plantsdatabase.com/go/8297/

Wonder if this might be the same thing I reported? Read this thread and see if it is the same as your problem.
I thought I was losing it!!

Most likely is the same problem.
I do agree with the review procedure to avoid incomplete and goofy :) pictures, but the change is not commonly known as of now, thus I would recommend that the sender is advised about the new procedure when submitting a picture.
Sounds to me like a good task for Dave :).

That's how it has been since the moment we created the image moderation. Each time that a picture is uploaded, the member is told about this.

"Thank you for the picture!
The picture will now be placed into a moderator's queue where it will be reviewed for quality and accuracy by the Plants Database editors."

See screenshot.

I think most of us oldies have just overlooked all that since we are so use to posting pictures. I know I for one have overlooked it many a times and all the while it was right under my nose!

(Zone 5a)

Molly I didn't notice it.

Dave how long does it take for the moderator's to decide if the photo is ok to put in the PDB?

windsurffer, your question is best answered by Terry. She is currently the only moderator of the images, so only she knows. :)

I also didn't notice it. I think I only would have noticed it if it would have smacked me on the forehead LOL.
Thanks for smacking my forehead Dave :)

Currently, I'm doing some non-scientific experimenting with the queue.

Here's my dilemma: If I continuously release the queue of images once we've made sure they're properly named and they loaded correctly, then I can easily find I've released a LOT of images in one 24-hour period. So the newsletter is very loooooooong, and hard for the average reader to digest and enjoy.

If I hold them all, and release only once a day, then people get antsy. Which I totally understand :o) For the time being, I try to go in and release several 2-3 times a day. The only problem with THAT is that sometimes - like yesterday - I'm out of pocket for most of the day (blackberry picking, followed by a roadtrip to MIL's to mow the lawn.) So it's evening before I'm able to settle in and get some images moving.

Long story short (shorter?) is please bear with us (me!) as we find the "happy medium" to this arrangement. The good news is that the queue has already cut down on partially-loaded images slipping into the PDB, and allowed several members to post dozens of images all at once without worrying about overkill.

(Zone 5a)

Ok that's cool with me, just asking.

Oh dear I didn't notice that there is a new system and posted one image 3 times thinking there was some error.
Sorry Terry - I'll know in future

It's a little strange not knowing how the photo has come out though - perhaps we should be able to view it before submitting as we do with other forums? Otherwise an inadvertantly wrong photo may go through with the person submitting toally unaware and unable to do anything about it

That's a good idea - philomel. Letting one preview the image first is probably a worthy implement. I'll make it happen.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Dave- I think that will help put people's minds at ease. Also, if I have to delete an image from the queue because it loaded wrong, I'll email the user and let them know it didn't come through properly. So far, the deletions have been mainly for duplicates (which I expected with the sudden change in procedure :)

The Preview code is finished. It now behaves a bit like the forums in that you first preview, then review, then finish.

If you back out without clicking finished, it is as if it never happened.

That's a great idea, thanks.

Thanks Dave and Terry
Look forward to trying out the new system Dave :)

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

I just tried it out
That's fantastic Dave, thanks SO much!
It's so reassuring to be able to see what you're submitting before it goes off into cyberspace LOL

So is there no longer a limit to the number of photos we upload a day? Or are we still restricted to 5 photos? It would good to mention the photos may not show up for a full 48 hours (so far several have taken that long for me). I understand the reasons, though. Keep up the good work.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Palmbob, that's correct - you can upload as many as you want, but I hope everyone understands that it may take us a day (or several) to work through your submissions, especially if you upload dozens at a time.

I'm still trying to limit the released images to roughly 5 per user/day, and that means some of you "heavy hitters" have a stockpile in there :)

(Zone 5a)

I promise I'll keep it to five when I do post photos :}

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Windsurffer, you don't have to limit yourself anymore; that's part of the beauty of the queue. You can throw as many images in there as you wish; I'll then release them a few at a time ;o)

(Zone 5a)

Oky doky, I was bad today and bought three new cactus plants(no id tags) soon as I can get some help Identifiying them I will be adding them to the PDB.
