We are just being flooded around here - anyone else floating away?
We got 5 inches of rain in less than 2 hours yesterday.
YIKES
get out the ARK!
Heavy rain last night; a storm just went through with another in site just down river. And the MG picnic tonight. Crossing my fingers.
Yes, we had bad storms last night and then again today.
Last night, I was in the process of adding weight to secure a top heavy brug - when a big surge of wind sent it toppling off of my porch onto another in-ground brug. Waaaaa - I lost several large limbs that were loaded with blooms.
After hearing that we might have large hail, I drove across town at lunch to put my plants in containers in the garage.
When I told my DH, he just chuckled and said that I was emotionally unable to handle another plant loss.
I do not remember ever having such a wet spring and summer. However, normally by now, DH would be complaining about our water bill - - - not this year. Nat
I'd be happy to send ya'll my ark, but it sank last month. :(
I'm happy to report that our weather has settled down finally into hot muggy days sporadically interrupted by unpredictable downpours, of up to 2.5 inches. This is a vast improvement over the past 6 weeks.
this too shall pass ... this too shall pass ...

And in the meanwhile, Oregon, the state noted for it's rain, is tinder dry, and in it's second month of temps in the 90's. We're praying for rain, and you're praying it'll let up. This is the 4th long hot dry summer in a row, and we have possible dry lightning in the forecast.
Send some of that rain back to Kansas!!! Parched, parched, parched. Near 100* the last week until today.....AHHHHHHH 84*. Still need a good soakin'. Brenda
It's cool and rainy here too. We got high winds today, turned some big potted brugs over. No real damage fortunately.
We had a few storm showers come through, but other than that it was just a nice day in the 70's.
Well, we had another set of bad storms again yesterday. While I had taken care to move my containers into the garage, I had a lot of damage in my yard - limbs down, tall plants pushed over, and a broken window in my garage door.
My largest brug was stripped of most of its leaves - - but still had most of it flower buds. But I was sick when I saw that my tall standard white whiskers brug had broken in half. The whole top was laying on the ground - - - full of blooms and buds. It seems that we had strong wind bursts that caused my damage. Nat
Here's the Cuyahoga river we can see from our back porch. Wish we'd been able to get closer to show the mother duck and duckings LOVING the way the river has grown!
Sorry about the damage, everyone. DH and I were commenting that we were amazed at how the stuff around us looked downright happy! Lost a few petals from my Jacob Cline monarda but other than that we were spared! Even our basement stayed dry, which is a miracle since before the landscapers re-graded it, it was leaking.
Guess that was the toughest test we could have given things... so we're relieved.
It makes you so sad when you lose precious plants... I'm sorry to hear of those of you who lost things.
Bigtime rain here last evening also. Over an inch in an hr, big winds, AND the power went out for a couple hours. (The ground is so saturated it is easy for winds to knock trees over onto power lines.) Today we have high wind/possibly hail/T-storm warnings until late this afternoon.
But hey, this'll sure jump-start my corn seedlings!
We had much needed thunderstorms last night from a cool front passing through East Texas. Cool front means it is only going to be around 91 and humid today instead of 98-100 and humid. We have had heat indexes of 105-110 for the last several days. Thanks goodness for cool fronts.
Bill
98 outside right now Bill, no rain!! But that's down from 102 yesterday!! Y'all bottle up that water and send it to us'ns!!
"eyes"
I wish you could send some of that rain here. We have had record breaking temperatures for 9 days now. Yesterday we beat Phoenix Arizona for the high temperature of the day. It is so very hot and no rain for a long time and none to speak of in sight. The fires around us are bad for the air quality. So send us some of that rain!!!
I wonder if you can just truck it out to us?
we have had the coolest summer on record here - and we are not going to see the 90's till at least mid-August, and that is if we do not get more deluge type rains.
Another 5 inches in a day here in nearby Ravenna, Ohio... the river is up off its banks and closing off the road that winds around the end of our road.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone could figure out a way to transport all our extra water to y'all who need it... we even had two men drown in the basement of their apartment building in a very ritzy part of our region... and over 200 apartment dwellers had to be evacuated because they were landlocked...
amazing!
If we could come up with the formula to make rain where it is needed and delete the rainclouds where they aren't needed we could be very famous for a few days. Then the media would move on to the next thing.
So sorry to hear about the deaths of those men and the heartache of the others who are losing their homes and what they have worked so hard for.
Yes, it's been pretty grim around here. We're just thankful that the landscapers were here just the week before this all happened and re-graded beside our house where the foundation had been exposed - otherwise we'd have had a flood in our basement. As it is, for us at least, God's timing protected us and we are dry, praise God for His protection over us. I guess He decided we'd had enough stuff to deal with for now.
Yes, we are praying for those whose homes and loved ones and possessions were lost. They've opened up the schools for the people who were flooded out and there are a couple of counties that are declared disaster areas.
Never saw anything like it in my 47 years here.
