PDB Bug to report.

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

I tried 3 times to post a pic on the Daylily Screech Owl. Each time it loaded my pic pretty quickly and then Thanked me for my pic. I logged off and came back only to find it was not there all 3 times the same way. Then I logged off a 4th time and came back and now my pic is on the side of my homepage, when I clicked on it....there wasn't anything there. No pic at all. I then went over to the forums and clicked on PDB pictures and my pic wasn't there? Am I losing it??!

No, you're not losing it. We introduced image moderation into the PDB today (longstanding TODO that finally got done) but there was a small bug, which is now fixed.

In other news, there are quite a few images already in the queue now. I'm going to leave it for Terry to see it, so she can see the queue herself and suggest any changes that need happening. I did approve just a couple just now to see it work for myself and it seems to be going very well!

So can you tell us what this image moderation is? Does that mean the images must be viewed and approved before they will be posted and able to be viewed? Or is it more programing magic that checks for bad codes or something?

Zany: The former. We already moderate additions to Botanary in this fashion. It works like this:

Once you add the picture, it puts it into a special queue for Terry or myself to view. Then, we go and look at it. If it is loaded correctly and we don't already have 1,000 images for that plant, we click on "Approve" for it, and it appears for everyone.

Thanks for the fast response Dave. Now we will know not to panic when we don't see it right away :~)

Yes, and there is also a message that lets you know about this, right after you upload the image.

I wondered if anyone was starting to think their images had fallen into the "twilight zone" in there :o)

For everyone's reference, images will generally be released in the evening, so I can better keep up with what's coming in during the day and make sure we don't have a 200 image glut in a daily newsletter.

Dave, I haven't tested it myself, but do contributors get an explanation like we do for Botanary, that lets them know their image has been entered in a queue? That might help alleviate concerns on where the image went...

I see there was some discussion between the time I started typing my reply above, and the time I hit "submit".

One of the most positive things about this change is that it will allow "marathon uploading sessions" to the PDB to resume for those who have been intensively training and want to get back to posting as many images as they wish to. The images can be checked for accuracy, make sure they loaded properly, and then we can release a manageable number of images each day for everyone to see and comment on.

It looks like the PDB forum is a little messed up from the change. For one, the pictures aren't showing there. When I click on a threads for my photos it shows 5 or 6 other entries with it. Here's the Asparagus pea http://davesgarden.com/t/390482/

I just created a new entry for a pansy, but the photo won't post, and it says thank you for the plant, but then it does not add. So, I came here to see what is going on. I tried to add it twice, but it won't take.

Bug_girl, it's there, but it's in the queue. It will take a while for all of us to get accustomed to the new process, I'm sure :)

Thanks for the report, Sue. I think I have fixed it so that won't happen again.

Dave, I stumbled on another bug this morning in the Garden terms. I added an entry, "Bur", but not a photo. The entry thinks there's a photo there...

Thanks, Sue, I've fixed this so it won't happen again.
