ack!! Garden Tour!!

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 6a)

I just had a close friend over to share some plants with and she informed me that she's recommending my home as part of their garden tour. ACK!!! So if any of you have been to one....or been a part of...please!! What am I in for?? Since I'm horrible at the names of my plants I'll be doing alot of searching online in the database and asking lots of stupid questions.

Tks!! LOL

Lots of folks admiring your lovely garden; my friends just had one-thought just a few would come and had over 200. Maybe a map in front of the garden, with information and any tips-most people just want to look and get the name of a plant that would look just wonderful in their garden. Good luck-my friends enjoyed sharing with others.

Sledder, I just went through this last weekend, it was great. I had a ball. You don't need to know the names of everything. I just got things weeded, mowed, and watered.

I have no idea but see it as a great opportunity to plug Davesgarden! This is the biggest garden you could ever tour. Meanwhile, post a lot of pictures of "what is this?" on the database and you will probably get most of them identified so you could make up some labels.

We had a pond tour last weekend and the house I was at had 340 people show up. People do want to know the names of many of the plants as they might want to go buy them for their own gardens. A list or map of them printed out is a nice touch and will save you lots of time talking to the folks. Mainly just weed, and have it ready to be beautiful that day. Don't wet your lawn too much for a day or so because it will be compacted a lot if you have it too muddy. And relax and have fun!!!! That last item is the main thing to remember.

Goood idea.. I wouldn't spend the extra time labelling the plants. It's not that important. If you're going to have the tour come through, I'd just weed, mow the lawn, and make sure all the plants look their best. Naming them isn't as important as enjoying them. :)

Goooo Mom! Happy for yoU!

Sledder, i would have some sort of guest book(maybe just a sprial note book) so people can sign their name and where they are from, maybe their fav plant or flower that you have? Also, a small note book with answers to questions about some of the flowers sure to be desired? And lastly, when the last person has left, a nice cold glass of ice tea w/ a slice of lemon, cold cloth for your forehead, and a foot stool to rest your wreary footsies :)Oh, and a camera so you can take and post pics for us!!!!
