hey Texas, ya'll ready for Claudette?

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

It looks like TS Claudette is slowly sneaking up on Texas. She's moving so slowly, it's worrisome.

We just had a nice little band of wind (like 15 mph - nbd) and showers that seems to be associated with that storm, which makes me take note. If the feeder bands are reaching out this far, does that increase the chance of the storm strengthening?

Anyway, I know a lot of ya'll are probably looking forward to the rainfall ... hope that's all it turns out to be.

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Cheri', we probably wont get too much rain out of it, but I, personally will welcome any rain or coolness we might get.

I also enjoy the change in air pressure associated with a change in the weather pattern, it makes me feel so energetic.

And it is currently pointed at the Valley (tip[ of Texas) which has suffered from a drought for many years and NEEDS that rain.

Just so everyone is safe. I am watching its behavior closely.

Love, Lavanda

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm almost 200 miles south of Lavanda, but even so, we will probably not feel it here. 100 more miles to the south, San Antonio might get rain and a bit of wind, but not likely anything dangerous. Of course, this has been a wet and windy July for us, and an unusual year as far as weather, so it's smart to pay attention. As Lavanda said, the valley needs, and will probably get, at least a little rain.

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Of course, she could go anywhere.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

Yes, the way she's just sitting there is worrisome. Like she's not sure yet where to go. (Knocking on wood) At least she's not strengthening ... just sitting there, for what? 9 hours ... bizarre.

They say it's going to Texas, but I'm keeping an eye on her anyway. This could be one of those storms.

DH and DD are in Brownsville. They closed the beaches on South Padre, someone drowned. DH said the tide was up to the dunes, highest he's ever seen it.

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Usualy the part northwest of the storm is where all the rain and winds are worst, and SPI is right in there, so it does not surprise me, Cala.

Glad they are in Brownsville. Have them on my prayer list for safety as I do all my other valley friends, and all the poor people in N Mexico who just live in little shacks, etc.

I must confess I find storms exciting. (but respect their danger).

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Lavanda, I think I understand what you mean about the exhilaration of storms. As a teen old enough to have a driver's license, I loved to go out on the jettys when a storm was approaching (but not TOO close!) and feel the energy of the wind and waves... and the salt spray blowing on my face.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I love that feeling too Darius. I love thunder storms too, as long as I'm under shelter and not close to a big tree!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

From a scientific viewpoint, we should enjoy storms, as the ions become more and more negtively charged. That has a mood elevating effect, and creates a sense of excitement and adventure. I have always loved the feeling of that pre-storm wind blowing on my face, and especially the way it feels to be near water during that time.

Cala, Lavanda, all who have loved ones near the target areas, my prayers are for their complete safety.

The weather bureau has said all afternoon that the storm has gained strength. Our area might actually get a little rain from it.

I read this morning that it's making a bee-line for the hill country, so we're fairly excited up here. By the time it arrives in our county, it will be vastly downgraded. Nevertheless, they tell us to expect sustained tropicalstorm winds and 6-8 inches of rain. This should be a lot of fun!

watching -GOOD LUCK all!!!

Hope no one gets hurts and NO plants get broken! ;)

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

It's already making a bit of wind here, mostly gusts and nothing really strong. The air feels great. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a lot of rain, with no damage. We are still behind in our rain totals for the year, so this could be a very good thing.

To have rain in July as we have this month is almost unheard of. I am so thankful.

The wind is blowing sustained here and the clouds are dark. It was starting to sprinkle just a few minutes ago so I went and put the chickens up early. Looks like Claudette is on our doorstep!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I'll be watching the weather too. Keep safe everyone!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

praying for you all that there is no major damage.

The poor folks in San Antonio are getting thrashed right now. Wow that is a big one! I can only imagine what that is like.

They say it'll be weakened considerably by the time it gets here so I'm not at all worried. If I were in San Antonio, however, I'd be quite nervous right now!

My sister, near Katy, TX, says they still aren't getting anything. I think they must be between feeder bands.

Batten down the hatches and fix yourself a drink. Hope all goes well.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Sundry, my DIL just left, and she had talked to her sister in Katy earlier. It was pouring there. I'm not sure exactly where she lives, but in Katy.

And now I must call San Antonio, my granddarling is there.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

My sister is a little ways from Katy, out in the boondocks. I think the nearest town is called Pattison. It's not far from Katy.

Anyway, maybe they were between feeder bands, and it finally caught up. They need the rain, so they will be glad.

wow, what a big storm!!! http://www.srh.noaa.gov/radar/latest/DS.p37cr/si.kewx.shtml

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Granddarling lives in the NW part of San Antonio, and she said they are only getting a little sprinkling rain, with some wind but not a lot. Sounds like it skirted her area and went southward to Kerrville. Dave, you must have been paying your rain taxes!

So far, I have only felt about 3 raindrops.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Bill and DD are safely back in TN. I hope Meiyu is safely home, haven't heard from her yet.

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

She proly (meiyu) has not made it back yet. It is a fur little piece.

All we got o Tuesday was some hgh hazy thin clouds, but it still helped keep the temp down some. Not complainin!

Just a few drops of rain here - the storm ended up going by to the south of us. Oh well!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

HAH...you sound so disappointed, dave!

Watching the news, some folks really took a beating (on the coast).

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Here.. we did got few showers but cool and windy from that storm.. Thanks to Claudette for bring us some rain for my plants! :o)

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Everything here are fine just rain often boy need to be cut grass soon. LOL That's Life!
I am glad all of you doing ok.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

More little cloudbursts here today, with gusty winds throughout the day. I agree, Lavanda, it kept the temps down, and for that I am grateful. When the a/c keeps kicking on all day, I can just feel the dollars draining out of my checking account.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

No wind, no rain in Bayview, not one drop.
