Photo limit?

I have read some threads where people are talking about a limit on photos that are uploaded to DG. I have looked everywhere for it and can't find what the limit is. Does it include database entries? Journal entries? Just pics uploaded to the forums? Sorry if this has been covered somewhere and I'm just behind(as usual).

I remember something about it from way back, but I can't remember if a specific amount was ever stated.....but then, my brain toots on and off at times.

The photo limit was for the PDB. I believe it was five or six per day. Do a search for threads Terry started. Let me look. BRB

I think the limit is only for the PDB, and is out of deference for the editors. So that ga-zillions of pics aren't piled up on 'em. (picturing that literally in my mind now - giggle)

Eyes, most nembers (subscribed or not) don't know about it. When someone starts posting a bunch of new entries and/or images, we send them a friendly, low-key message and point them to the thread. Since the gist of the message is in the first post, it's okay that non-subscribers can't read the rest of the thread. So far, most have responded very positively to the message, and comply with our request.

So the limit is only for the database not on threads? I stay confused. I had heard there was a five day limit, lol, like your photos added up over five days.(yes, I will admit I am blonde)

No, it is just in the PDB where the limit is requested. Post all you want in the threads (being courteous, of course, of not dominating the entire forum by posting 10 threads in one day).

But inside your own thread, post all you want.

Cala....seems I remember a time that someone posted a lot of pictures at one time in Photos....and Dave "suggested"that they limit theirs as that filled up the page and others couldn't get their photos viewed that day. Sound familiar anyone? Jo

Hi all, the confusion seems to be coming from my end..not surprised ey? It was from this thread: http://davesgarden.com/t/389290/ I was posting ginger pics this a.m. and I got some sort of warning. I was busily working and looked up saw the warning and "X"ed it out. My fingers went faster than my brain. I thought the warning was from my "windows" program, but as it was leaving my screen it was from Davesgarden. I still don't know what the warning was...so I figured .."Well, I've posted over 5 pictures this a.m. so it must be asking me not to post anymore"...anyway, Cala emailed me asking if there was a five picture a day limit picture posting. I told her I didn't know but was to embarrassed to ask. So, that brings us to this thread..whew..what a mouthful...Now I am still left wondering what the warning said, ha! That'll teach me to read before X-ing.

Nope, it was to no one in particular.

It is five PER day.

After we crshed this spring, someone asked if there were a limit and Terry courteously suggested we limit photo submissions to PDB to a max of five per day.

This is one of those times when the "threads you are watching" comes in really handy for saving time searching for the elusive thread.

On behalf of Plants Database editors (Baa, PoppySue and myself), we're excited that the PDB is back up and running, and we know many of you are glad it's back, too.

We know that several of you have been collecting images and information to add to the PDB, which is wonderful, and we
can't wait to see what you've captured to submit!

However, we need everyone's
cooperation and restraint: UNTIL
FURTHER NOTICE, PLEASE LIMIT YOUR
DAILY UPLOADING OF NEW PLANTS
AND/OR IMAGES TO 5 PER DAY.

This will allow us to do three important things:

1) keep up with the new submissions and make corrections/additions as necessary;

2) make sure everything looks good when the newsletter goes out each night; and

3) ensure the newsletter doesn't become overwhelming to the readers.

For those of you who help us keep an eye on the new images and entries (either through the PDB forum or the
newsletter), we're counting on you to alert us to anything that looks out of place. Don't worry about submitting
duplicate error reports, (but please expect our responses to be VERY brief!)

We'll be working down the queue of reports that were submitted before the PDB went offline, as well as trying to
keep up with the new error reports.

Hi Lavanda, The pictures of gingers I was posting were in the Tropicals forum, not the PBD. I understand the PBD rule. Thanks!


(however,I am still left wondering what the warning said this a.m. since dave stated that more than 5 pics can be posted on the forums.)

I will leave it to the experts, but probably he means posting to the photos forum as opposed to PDB, and to other forums where someone might post any foto just to share- not to remain as part of the official database where people research plants and the infor should be as accurate as possible.

I also posted the above quote so Cala could see what we were referring to.

Well, I posted on the thread with no problems just now. All is well :)

There was talk regarding the photo forum as well, for the main reason of it now being possible to post several photos in a single thread now. That in itself cuts down on new photos being bumped to the second or even third page when a member posts a bunch of photos as individual threads.
