Thank you all.
I learned so much from reading this thread.
Still have Elizabeth ginger from Lisa growing and did have to move it out of sun; started burning.

The curcuma from the co-op
Not one came up! ! ! I usually order extras to make up for the failures. But there was not ONE curcuma that came up! And the bulbs were so healthy looking!

makes me feel guilty!

I am not ready to give up on growing ginger ~ they are too beautiful not to have.

Beautiful pix--no wonder Root is dying for them. I just got hooked on them recently. It all started with the b'fly gingers a neighbor has. I stop every night to smell the fragrant blooms. Ohhhh, so lovely a scent! I know I'm hooked!

Bward:
Your first 7/14 post looks a lot like the ginger I have. It's a curcuma, but that's all I know. Any idea what yours is? I'm trying to find out what mine is called. It has a pinkish-purple tinge to the tips of the white petals (or sepals, or whatever the heck they are called)and a cream colored edge on the leaf. It's about 3 ft. tall. I have a some pictures of the flower in my camera right now--have the old 35MM so I have to finish the roll before I can post some pictures. Somewhere around here I have the pictures of the plant... Ah, found it!

I'm supposed to have surgery in a few more weeks and that will lay me up for at least a week. I'll have some time to surf and share things then...

And they smell good too!!!!!! Oh man, this could get serious!!!!!!!!!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Welcome WillowWasp! I too love gingers but only have a few right now. Most of them are easy to care for and multiply. I leave mine in the ground, they go dormant and come back each year but I am sure some of them need special care. Lisa know about gingers! She will be along shortly.

I've just ventured over here from the desert to have a look at the tropical flowers. Beautiful! I found this thread buried back on page 4 and thought it should be more visable for those who might have missed it or those who just want to see it again.
