Is there a thread that explains how a newbie can set up "their page" and how to get the most out of DG? I've been helping quite a few newbies myself, but this would be a good thing!
I love that "help" button on the journal now!
Thanks,
Vi
Terry?
Vi, I'm not aware of one, but I'll do some checking.
Anything yet?
Sorry Vi, it's been a busy day, offline and online ;o)
There is the tour of Dave's Garden, and new members are encouragd to change their password when they log in, AND I have a message I can send to new subscribers when they need information on navigating the forums. But it will probably take me a few days to come up with something more general (and it may take the form of a "welcome letter") we can send to those who inquire at the helpdesk. (You an always direct people there and we're glad to help them get started.)
OK, please forgive my ignorance, but where do you find the "helpdesk"? Geeze, guess I need help too!
Vi, click the "contact us" link waaaay down at the bottom of the page (it isn't a link you'd see just casually reading forum postings - scroll down all the way and you'll see it). One of the choices there is "I need help using the site" and I believe that's what Terry's talking about. :)
You're right GW--never get down the page that far! And I wouldn't wanna bother the poor souls anyway, I'm sure they have enough to do!
What would be nice is just a concise step by step written method for: how to set up your home page, using the "preferences", an example page showing arrows for "use this to...", and "how to use this site". If we could at least put it in the FAQ thread we'd have somewhere to direct the newbies, instead of the one to one letter. Oh and maybe add that link to the "Welcome Mat".
(I've been trying to help a person who just can't seem to understand what I'm telling them.) Maybe it's just me, LOL!
GW pointed you to the right place, and while I daresay most "regulars" don't scroll that far down the page, there sure are a lot of people who DO find it when they have a question :)
A concise step-by-step set of instructions would be nice, if possible. but to be honest, there are so many facets to the homepage, it really takes someone who is willing to explore and experiment to get the full benefit of the personalization features. However, I'll give it my best shot when I get some time to concentrate on it.
