regarding chat

why don't we just meet on an IRC channel?
would seem easier and not as cumbersome as the current chat.
you can also link a java chat to an irc webpage.

food 4 thought.

anyone who has Yahoo messenger can also create a chat room and folks join.... it's simple to do.

Personally, I think it would be way cool to have the DG chat on IRC, linked up to a java chat so that no IRC client was needed to participate. That way I could have the features I'm used to, and no one would be left out.

But, I imagine Dave has got better things to do than worry about that. I'm thinking there would be complications with logging in (Is chat subscribers only?), and monitoring and who knows what all else. Sounds like an unnecessary headache, from that side.

Because of some problems many moons ago it became necessarry to limit Chat to times when it can be monitored and limited to members only. That eliminated the problems and folks got used to having CHAT at specific times instead of always open. It was Daves way of handling a sticky situation and has, as far as I can tell, been very sucessful.

Others do set up chats apart from DG and invite members through a posting in the forums to join them on occasion which relieves Dave of responsibility for monitoring it. But by having one official time each week dedicated to Chat it makes it more likely that people will be there and the chat will be lively ;~)

I'm fine with it as it is, I just get annoyed at the limitations of the java chat. NBD, I well understand the nightmare an un-monitored chat can be.

I like the specific time, too, even tho I rarely get in to participate.
