tomden, if you'd add your zone (on your member page) it would show up on all your posts, and then people would know what may do best where you live.

Darius, How do I do that?, I went to my member page, don't know how to insert, your help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Tomden,
I am a new gardener and have found one website to be especially helpful in finding plants for specific purposes. It is Cornell University's Flower Gardening Guide (Cornell runs our cooperative extension programs in NY State). You can search by zone, type of soil, bloom time, and a host of other factors. The site is at http://www.explore.cornell.edu/scene.cfm?scene=Home%20Gardening&stop=HG%20%2D%20Find%20a%20Flower
or go to the www.explore.cornell.edu site and click on home gardening to get to it.

Good luck!

Hi, I would recommend: mums (many are late bloomers- just have to be careful about too late) so do not open until first part of November ( I had to give those away!!), spiderwort and ladybells have their second blooming in fall, my snapdragons continue past the first frost ( and even sometimes winter over in WI-go figure!!), toad lilies bloom late here (about half the time, I lose the buds to first frost. Buddleia, perennial salvia, rudbeckia, veronica, obedient plant-keep going if dead-headed regularly. My ornamental oregano keeps going until heavy frost. I hope that these have been of help.

I came across a beautiful snapdragon, called Angelonia Summer Snapdragon 'Angelmist White', I'm hoping to come across again, if anyone knows who has some seedlings, I'd like to acquire. Thanks Again for ALL your help. Denise

Spiderwort does seed and may also do root propagation/runner roots-cannot remember the term (?). I cover my cut back snaps with mulch (chopped oak leaves) and they sometimes come through the winter-I consider that a real bonus. I would dead head the snap, you can probably get another bloom cycle.

Marcia,
Thank you! I'll cut them back and save the seeds
