Let's Talk Daylilies.........

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

Actually, Catlady, you sent me a bunch of gourd seeds and possibly something else (I have senior moments too), and I had cuttings I was gonna send when it warmed up. We kept postponing sending the brug cuttings, til I finally told you, if it took me all year, I was gonna send you some cuttings. So now, here we are. Do you have shredded white?
I plan to mail your picasso Monday.

Gilmer, TX

No gingerlily I don't have shredded white, but really the Picasso will even us up. Pam

Re: variegation...

When it stops raining, I'll take a picture of my "giant clump of daylilies," which includes some with variegated leaves.

I looked closer at the double/triple bloom - it is on one of the NON-variegated clumps.

Badseed - I have never "traded" before, but would be glad to share what I have! Let me get a picture posted in the next week (after the rain???) and you can see if it is truly anything you want! Wouldn't want to send you a weed! HA HA!

Does anyone have Park's Candy Lily? I have some from bareroot and some from seed - coming along nicely, but probably won't get any flowers this year, as our growing season is so short. Interesting foliage - like an iris (as one of its parents is an iris, I believe). Doesn't need much water!

Will write more later - I'm studying for a (nerve-wracking) NY State Teacher's certification exam - wish me luck.

FYI -
From a Justgardeners.com forum (about variegated daylilies)... "White Stripe of Hite's is probably the one most commercially available. I recently saw two new ones being propagated that look quite nice and one is a variegated version of the old Corky that should make it a real good landscape plant. There is also the old variegated 'Kwanso' the sterile triploid from Asia. It is nearly a weed though and I would plant it where nothing else is. It's almost bamboo!"

We have a resident candy lily aficionado here at DG. =)

I want to try the candy lily, next year. I've read a lot of good things about 'em.
And now I'm going to have to track down some variegated daylilies. If this keeps up, I'm going to have to take down a few trees to get more sun in my yard! lol.

Good luck with your exam!

I am also trying candy lilies from seeds, will have to wait until next year for blooms, I have a mix and then I have some 'Sangria'.

Marcia,
Thanks, Madison isn't awfully far but I've got a lead on someone in my are. I was visiting a friend that showed me a bouquet that her co-worker brought for her, it containe at least 5 different colors of lilies! She said "you ought to see her gardens! She takes a weeks vacation every spring to prepare beds!"

Thanx TLC!
