I know I should have started a new thread for this topic but since I had already posted the pics here, thought i'd just go ahead and use this one again. If you go back several postings and look at the pics of the seedlings that I started from BGI seeds you will have some idea of how big these plants are. The seeds were started in mid February. That means that they are approximately 5 months old. I make rounds throughout my intire yard every day to see which plants may have newly formed Y's and or buds. Well upon examination of these 5 month old seedlings today, I discovered that of 5 plants in a cross made by T McLeod (Dr. D x Whiskers) that 3 of them have Y'd and have noticeable buds. Pretty good for 5 months I think.Gosh know's they've been pushed hard enough. The plants are only about 4ft tall and are the same ones that have been planted in thirty-five gallon pots since they were 1 inch tall.
Plants in a cross made by tig also look like they are splitting as are some of the ones in the cross made by JT Sessions.
A seedling shared with me by Brugie is growing like a weed but has not Y'd as of yet, many side branches though from top to bottom. A seedling shared with me by Brugnanny at the same time I got the one from Brugie is also y'd and has visable buds. I can't wait to see what is gonna pop out of these buds in a few weeks. It's getting to that nail biting stage now,as if I don't do that enough already!
I'll definately post pics on the progress of these buds and blooms as they start to open.
Roots!
can't wait to see them!! you're doing something right!
David, I wait for new pictures,too:-)
Happy Growing
I was very surprised to see those y's and buds today and something else I found buds on today that really surprised me is my confederate rose. It shouldn't have buds and flowers until at least October here. It never has before. It did bloom in September last year and I thoguth that was early, but this is crazy. It's still July and the buds on the rose are large enough to tell that that is infact what they are.
Maybe it's because i've been fertilizing almost to the point of killing them, who knows?
david, that gives me hope for my conf. rose. I've never seen one bloom in person, I'm hoping this is the year.
I hope all of your brug seedlings make you a happy camper. Just playing the waiting game here too.
David, I'll keep my fingers crossed you get something really special from my DrD x Whiskers cross. Can't wait to see pictures of all your blooms.
tig,if you've never seen one in person it'll knock your socks off when you do. They can't be described you just have to see it to beleive it.Sad thing is they only last one day but the plant will have so many blooms you'll never know it.
Shirley,
I'm almost at the happy camper stage but not quite. A few days before they open for the first time that'll be the day.
The strawberry creme x tropical sunset that you gave me is really growing and has tons of side branches but has not y'd yet.
I also forgot to mention tha my HG is y'd and has tiny buds. I have fingers, toes, tounge, eyes, arms and legs crossed that this one is going to bloom. Oh, i'm holding my breathe too.(LOL)(:D
how often are you feeding your brugs and how often the CR?? david, hope you get blooms from the HG!!
All of the perrenials started out in the spring by getting a dose of 10-10-10 all purpose. I had kind of gotten out of the habit of using MG,which I used to do all the time. Then when I started with the brugs in February I followed shirley's advice on how she fertilizes. Then I kind of strayed from that and started doing my own thing as far as fertilizing goes.
For my potted brug seedlings I hit em with a dose of MG about every other day and I use 3TBS of MG to 1 gal. of water. Then about once a week i'll hit them with some Alaska fish emulsion.Maybe 2TBS per gal. of H2O.So basically I just don't follow the directions.
As for the entire plant collection in my yard and that includes the seedlings (brugs) I MG every other day. I just empty one of the 1pound packs into the hose attachment hook it between 2 hoses attach a sprinkler to one end and let it run through that. One section of the garden at a time and I run it until the water runs clear. This goes for the CR also.I try to use the fish emulsion maybe once a week like that.
That's pretty much what i've been doing and it seems to be working.
you run the sprinkler and give the the 3 tbs every other day on the seedlings?
Would like to see a HG blooming.
The 3TBS yes. The sprinkler catches them slightly,so they do get a little from that also. The second batch of seeds that I got from BGI didn't germinate as well. One of the crosses sprouted almost all of the seeds and the other 3 only sprouted a few. The ones that have germinated are about 4-5 inches now and have 6-7 leaves. I'm going to try and get them planted in larger pots and start the same fertilizer regimine with them and see what happens.
let us know, sounds great.
Don't give up on the ones that haven't sprouted. They will sometimes come up months later.
Ludger,
I'd like to see it myself. Bloom that is.The plant is only about 3ft tall and has 2 central stems and a few side shoots but just one of the main stems has y'd so far. You can see the little flower buds though.
