I just found out that Dr. Currier McEwen passed away yesterday in a hospital in Brunswick. If you all remember he is the well known hybridizer of Siberian and Japanese irises that lived in South Harpswell. He was 102 years old and my hero. I guess I knew it was coming but it's still quite a shock. It's a huge loss to the iris world.

Dr. McEwen passed on
Oh that is so sad! I was just reading an article on him not too long ago. Was it you that posted it? I don't remember if I read it here or in a mag. His work was truly impressive. Sad day for the flowers that might have been. :(
102 ! He had a long and productive life and left the world with so many lovely flowers to remember him by! What a truly magnificent legacy he has left us.
Several years ago watched a show all about him. I planted my first Siberian and Japanese last fall and they are just now blooming.
Gentleman was quite an inspiration to so many.
