Just starting to bloom again today.
Quite lovely (o:
NHE Rothkirch
that is absolutely to die for.....I love the color.
Very Prety Alice!
Wow! Is it the NHE RK or is it something you modelled out of moist wax? How long are those tendrils on this huge flower?
It's beautiful! Mine has a bud, I can't wait.
lovely Alice!!!!
Very nice.
Mine had a bud before I left home, I can not bear even ask my DH about it. I put a purple ribbon on it which means TOM IF YOU KILL THIS YOU WILL DIE ALSO!!!
Very pretty Alice. I wonder if it will get darker later in the year.
That is really pretty. The color and sheen on it remind me of taffy or something. Sweet flower!
Badseed, great description, I was thinking it reminded me of something but couldnt quite think what it was.
When I was growing up, my mother would make taffy, the pull kind, and we would pull and pull and pull, the coloring and sheen is exactly the same as the this brug....
Abutilon,
Does your Rothkirch seem very heat tolerant?
I will get the measurements for the tendrils in morning.
The last blooms in May deepened as they aged.
I love the shiney waxed look.
Brugmansia, this plant is taking heat well.
Foliage is good green and very healthy.
It is 90's here the last days. Blooms are holding good, too.
I really like this brug ((o: ha
Alice, it is very lovely and I can see why you like it.
It is a pretty bloom, but I always though Rothkirch was much darker. Do you think it will change with the season or will this be the color it stays? I like the waxy look to it also.
Abutilon, it should change into a darker Pink.

Why is everyone convinced that this isn't really Rothkirch? Don't you think they know what they are selling?
maybe because of things like this:
http://davesgarden.com/t/358911/
http://davesgarden.com/t/368867/
http://davesgarden.com/t/363997/
http://davesgarden.com/t/362299/
just to mention a few times that the big brug nurseries here and abroad have sold the wrong thing. And people didn't find out until the next year. I have no idea about the above brug, but it's happened so many times in the past 2 years, why would anyone be upset if someone questions?
not to mention the confusion between Pink Beauty and Rosamond, both sold as Pink Beauty, and all the little seeds that are going to be running around with RK listed as the mother. It's only responsible breeding that would make you want to be sure.
Instead of a discussion of previous faults and who is better than who (and why) it would be more fruitful to concentrate on a specific clarification in the RK question. Monika, I like to ask that if it is not RK in this picture, what is it then? ... and what are the differences (leaf, calyx, flower etc.) between the RK from NHE and the RK that you are growing?
Thanks
Tonny
Tonny, the question was asked 'why is anyone questioning'. I gave answers to that. I agree, the thing to do is to find out if possible if it's truly RK that is being sold here.
I agree with Tonny, the plants involved in the other threads didn't even come from NHE and it's kind of silly to say "once I got a plant in the US and it was tagged wrong so all plants bought here are not tagged right".
Look at my Kyles Pink and Brugies, they don't look like the same plant but they are.......just different shades. My Golden Lady can be anything from gold to white, does that make it not Golden Lady? My Enchanted Double White is almost yellow this year, it's so different from last year and look at my Butterfly, it's ten times darker than some of the other guys here, does that mean theirs isn't Butterfly? I just think it's wrong to make a statement without proof.
As for some plants being tagged wrong from a nursery, I've made mistakes, it's easy to do, misplace one tag and then take cuttings.......
As for the Pink Beauty/Rosamond....who knows. They were bought as Pink Beauty, then someone said "oh, that's not Pink Beauty" (judging from a photo of course) JT's is identical to mine when blooming side by side, so I think we confuse ourselves without any help from the nurseries!
One thing I can say for sure is that it's truely beautifull, Alice!

Whatever.....I like it and cherish it. Different weather cool, hot, wet, sure can make some of my older brugs bloom much different than previously. People question why mine are dark colors???? I can't help it!
Oh Gloria, it must be because you live the good life and are being rewarded!!! I on the other hand must reflect on what I must have done wrong to be rewarded with so many Frosties!!!
Great question Cala. I was wondering also why it has been questioned if not assumed that it is not the real R. Has anyone asked NH about it? They sure seem willing to share info. Is it just because of the color that it is being questioned?
You guessed it Kell, CLEAN living!
I think the questions are because we have gotten so many mismarked ones from nurseries in the past, will just move on, as all the nurseries do this, just signs of the time, to make money.
Not necessarily to make money. It's very easy to make a mistake even when one is very meticulous with their tags. I got a supposed "versicolor peach" in a trade and shared cuttings before the plant bloomed, well guess what? It wasn't V Peach at all, but V. Alba(wonder how many of those who received it from me sent it out as V. Peach before it bloomed). I sent out Golden Lady and come to find out, I'd mixed up a couple of Arborea plants in the tray, didn't notice when I took them out and had to email the people I'd sent them to that their plants might not be the right ones. I've bought trays of plugs from reputable nurseries that had a different label on each end. Human error. Some others weren't the color they were tagged. More human error, not greed. A nursery worker sees a tag lying on the ground, not thinking they pick it up and stick it in the nearest pot. What if it didn't go there? Oops, mistagged plant.
I know just what you mean Cala, I have a whole table now of brugs that have no tags. I am famous for sticking a cutting in a pot and being convinced I could never forget what I stuck in it, but by the next day I have no clue.
That is why you need to figure out how to hurry up the blooming process so I can figure out what I have as soon as possible. LOL!!
I would think it is going to get harder and harder to keep the brugs straight as time goes on. They are so easy to grow, share and to pollinate and as more and more home gardeners grow them, there will be so many ones that are produced that look so similar to each other. Human error won't even need to come into play.
We are all human(I think) Nobody's PERFECT!!!
:( I am a lawless non-labeler :( I recieved a suav. white cutting that the donor had actually labeled with a sharpy, I dont know what it does or doesnt do for the cutting, but its growing taller, :) do any of you do the sharpy thing right on the plant? cheryl
I do the sharpie thing right on the plant. It's safer that way, tags sometimes get knocked out of the pot or fade, the sharpie lasts over a year when written on the stem of the plant.
Didn't know this was going to cause a wildfire.......I won't ever post another observation on this forum..because EVERYONE takes them out of context...................
Gee Kyle, I do not think you caused a wildfire, for this has come up before. Please do not feel bad, Kyle. We love you, Kyle!!!
In fact I was under the assumption it was agreed before that it was not THE Rothkirch. I think Cala just wanted to know why. As I do for I have no clue on my own. I have never seen THE Rothkirch to compare. Someone assumed Cala was upset, I think she was just asking. Again, is it just because of the color? I really think we should inquire of NH if they feel it is different and see what they have to say. I understand they are very friendly. Though I could be wrong....LOL!!!
Gee whiz, that's what's wrong, people assume things. I'm not upset(most things in life aren't worth getting upset about) I just asked a question.
Why stop posting your observations? Don't we learn from each other? By asking questions we learn, but I want someone to prove the answer to me, don't just say "it's true because I say so" tell me why it's true.
I will post another photo tomorrow showing the plant and foliage.
A few days straight in the 90s the flower is collapsed in the heat when I am in from work today and the next is not yet opened.
Though again did turn a nice deep pink as it aged (o: ..ha
I will talk with NHE ..as I can do that. They are quite knowledgeable and some of the nicest I have met.
I doubt would misrepresent intentionally.
Truth ..
I would not feel harmed if this RK is not the real one.
Even if not "THE ROTHKIRCH" .. it is nonetheless a GREAT brug.
Just look at it ..how many did you see looking like this one!?
Kyle, no running off.
Your opinion is always wanted and appreciated by me.
Constructive questioning/criticism/etc. is always good as we can all learn from it.
Your knowledge counts for alot in my book.
And others (Monika, Ludger, Cala, Tonny, Bruno, Glory to name a few ..who know more than me).
And everyone (even newbies)I have learned from.
I like coming away knowing more, and want that to continue.
No upsets, please (o:
Oh thanks Alice. I will be most interested in what they say. I agree with you, even if mine is not the Euro R, I have gotten my money's worth just from anticipation. In fact looking at your great pictures adds to my enjoyment of my anticipation. THANKS! I am hoping mine won't bloom until I go home or my DH will have to buy another camera so I can see it. LOL
Kyle,
I, too.
Kyle, you didn`t start a wildfire :-) As for me though, it is not enough that someone indicate that this or that Brug is not a "real one" and neither that the arguments are backed up by repetitions as again here. What serves us all best in te long run is facts that rest on comparitions and backcrosses. That is as close as we get to solid evidence and I know that even a Plovman or a Lockwood would have been happy with that method ;-)
If someone is posetive to own a real RK ... why not mail some pollen to Alice to cross as a cross say more than a thousand arguments :)
Tonny
edited to replace "stated" with "indicated"

To my knowledge, nobody has said that the NHE Rothkirch is not the real Rothkirch. We discussed the lack of color and the differenr plants offered in Europe as Rothkirch.
I never put the integrity of NHE as a serious nursery in question. Quite a few of your identification problems have their roots in Europe but I do not bring them up nor discuss them here anymore - as I have learned out of the past.
If we are unable to discuss our plants in a decent matter, then we should cut down our activities just in posting and watching nice pictures.
