Going to New Mexico

Crossville, TN

Susan...another 4 hours drive will allow us to see each other again!! I will be home on July 3rd from my trip to Fla...you're welcome at Chez Roadrunner's...nothing fancy, but lovely scenery and close to Tombstone. Jo

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Nathalyn, what a dahlin you are!

The next time God allows me to go to Mexico, will be glad to drag you along as well if you like!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Jo, I would love to come see you but I'm afraid no extra stops on this trip :(
I wanted to see Aimee really bad when we went to NM but it's not going to work out as we won't have much time, this time

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

4 more days..........woohoo.......lol

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

3 more days :)

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Easy does it, girl, you need to save yourself some energy for working when you get there. Are you all packed? Got your meds in a handy pouch or tote? Some pork rinds to tide you over the long stretches of road when you can't find anything suitable? Don't forget to take along a couple of pillows and a throw. And some soft slippers or socks so you can cuddle up in the car. Radishes in a ziplock in case you are dying for some crunch. A small notebook to keep a brief note or two about things you want to check out on the way back. My phone numbers. I'll have to think about more.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

your phone numbers are always in my wallet and I will have to call you on the way.........need to pick up a phone card somewhere. I made a checklist of things to make sure to take and I'm not leaving the house until things are all checked off.........lol

have down:
socks, underwear, clothes, toothbrush, credit card, hair dryer, thumper (for the back), heating pad, transfomer (for the car to convert electricity), camera, camcorder, disks (for camera), meds, cooler, fruit, sunglasses, hat, book (to read in the car), pillows, sheets (to use for light blankets), folf up chairs in case we stop that has no place to sit down.................hmmmmmmm........then there's the list for the dogs that hillbilliebo is watching for me.......
dog collars, dog food, dog dishes, dog cage, dog bed......

let me know if I'm forgetting something here, I always forget things :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Yep, we've all packed for some trip or another -- some fun!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I've never been on the road for this long before. I think the longest was 12 hours and I drove that straight through by myself from GA to OH. I just can't imagine being on the road for 3 days but I guess I'll find out soon, really soon.........lol

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

a gallon jug of water, some purell to clean your hands in case you cannot wash them, snacks (will save you money), roll of paper towels, flashlight, cool clothing, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, bar of soap, hairbrush, aspirin, ice chest, some things for Jim (LOL).

If your car plays CD or cassettes, bring some, there will be areas where you cant get decent music.

Are you driving straight thru or gonna stay in a motel?

Check your spare tire before you leave!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

We budgeted enough to stay 2 nights in a motel on the way there and 2 on the way back.

I added some of those things to my list........thanks :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Baby wipes are handy, too!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Got it :)

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

razor? ...and more than one book or magazine

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

have an electric shaver that I'll take but thanks for bringing it up, didn't have it on the list :)

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

We always take a few immodium, alka seltzer, and pepcid for the old geezer.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, my, yes...For Heaven's sake, don't forget the Immodium! Pretty fitting you prepare for a sudden onset of "Montezuma's Revenge", seeing how you're going to New Mexico! ;)

Susan: A little travel advice to make your trip more pleasant. Instead of dropping down from Amarillo Texas and coming through Clovis, Roswell, Ruidoso, and Tularosa-stay on I-40 until you you hit Santa Rosa-take US 54 through Vaughn, Corona,Carrizozo, and Tularosa. There's less than 10 miles difference in mileage. They have a large road construction project through the Hondo Valley between Roswell and Ruidoso with lots of detours, road blocks, and traffic stops. US 54 is a good road through rolling hills and usually doesn't have much traffic. Have a safe trip!

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh, Flo, I have been away for a while and didn't know you were going to NM!!!! Take me, too, please????

I tried to move to Albuquerque in '85 but couldn't find a job. I just love the west! I know you will too.

(I drove US 54 to Tucson once -- out of this world!)

Take 2 water jugs, you won't believe how much you can dehydrate in the summer. One gallon of water ought to last a person about 5 hours, and it might be that long between towns on some of the roads.

I used to drive through Kansas, just pulled over for a quick nap late at night, and seeing the sunrise in the prairie was fabulous! Almost as good as the stars in the desert. When you drive, try to time it so you are driving at sunrise in one of the prairie states. You won't believe it!!!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Thanks Dale, Jim says he usually doesn't go that way anyway so that should be no problem. Thanks for the great tip, we'll remember that

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

some chap stick and some hand lotion for the dryness and use it before you have a dry hand and lip problem and you will be much happier.

Sunset in one of the western states is almost better than sunrise unless you are headed east. Just have some really good sunglasses along with you so the sun in your eyes isn't a problem. And take them off once in a while so you see the true colors of the sunset.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Sunglasses is a definate plus that I "have" to have as I'm very light sensitive. I have prescription sunglasses so I'm good there :)

Edited.

to feast our eyes with your pics.
Good luck to your west journey.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Jianhua!!!!
So good to hear from you :)
Don't forget to send me an e-mail with that info so I can get you added. I have a nice collection of garden magazines here for you too. Will send them when I get back :) Any other reading materials you would like? I know no politics and such (which I don't have as I really don't care for those).........lol

Shangshui, Henan, China(Zone 7b)

Yes,gal.will do it later on.
any readers are okay,
only excluding heavy ones.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

gotcha :)

will try to mail them to you after all this vacationing so I can have a clear head and not forget something. I have so much to do yet and it's still not quite sinking in that we're going. I'll be a nervous wreck come Saturday.......lol

Shangshui, Henan, China(Zone 7b)

I had thought to have a good relaxation
this summer vocation, but the lady principal
persists in my staying at school to practise oral
english with the kids who will spend their holidays
at school.fine,isn't it.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

sorry to hear that you won't get to relax :(
What a bummer that must be. I'll be thinking about you while I'm out there on the road and send some good relaxing vibes your way :)

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

That lady is a real slave driver! You can't spend all of your time with kids, it'll make you crazy. Lucky kids, to have such devoted educators. And how great that they are so thirsty to learn that they pass up a vacation. I hope you have at least a little break during the summer.

Shangshui, Henan, China(Zone 7b)

Well,it is not that.
the lady's own son is not so good at learning english.
she wants me to use the long holiday to give her son a thorough brush over the lessons which he learned last semester.
To be good with students does not mean you should always spoil them .sometimes in order to let them finish off their homework you have to lose temper and give a cruel punishment, such as ,have a naughty boy standing attention facing the wall for some minutes,or just have him to copy the exercises a dozen times at a time.hehehe
