Another Strange Request

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I'm looking for various bird feathers, colorful or with a bit of a prism effect shine to them (you know, they look like they're colorful in the light but look about black or whatever without light) I'd love to trade seeds for them or whatever :)
would love to have some really fluffy ones too. Ostrich feather would be the ultimate :)

Oh and butterfly wings too if you find one that perhaps died and the wings are still good (just don't kill any for this) :)

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

So what are you making? A feathered hat?

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

no...........lol. Little fairies, I will make wings from the feathers and if I can find Ostrich hair, I can actually use them to make hair too for them. The fairies are only about 7" tall :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

the both cost the same you silly goose..........lol

I'll look on ebay but the other day I just found a bunch of junky ones or some that were way over priced :)

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

I'll keep my eye out. The last dead butterfly I saw was being carried off by ants. Not much left at the time. Guess I'll have to be quicker.

I've bought beautiful feathers in feather dusters! The black shiney ones like you mentioned...get em at Wal-mart...cheap.

Ellabell, GA(Zone 8a)

I sometimes find butterfly wings on the ground after something eats the body. I will keep them for you, when I find them.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

thanks everyone :)

Bremerton, WA(Zone 8b)

We don't find many dead butterflys here...but we do find lots of large Dragonflys. Would you be interested in their wings? If so, I'll start collecting them for you.

Oh, and we have several Peacock farms down the road...I was going to go see if they would sell or give me some feathers. Wonder if they would let me have some of the smaller down feathers that are laying around...want to give these a try? I'd be happy to go ask them this Thursday (woo hoo...my day off)

Sure would like to see some of the faries you are making too!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

that would be most wonderful WaWild1, I never thought of dragonfly wings before but those would work most awesomely too :) And I would love any of the peacock feathers, down or eyes!!

I have my first fairy posted in the parking lot forum "Fairy needs a name" and am working on my second one right now :)

I'm just starting out so they'll get better as I make them

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Feather dusters -- excellent thinking, Mel!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Susan......Since you moniter this thread I guess you will get this post. When is your doctor appointment you have in June? Did you like the new one? How are you doing? Hope everything is going well. Your faeries are really something! You're a very talented person.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

My doctor's appointment is tomorrow at 2pm and hope all goes well. I hope this doc will do something to diagnose me

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

If I was looking for butterfly wings I would think the best place to look would be around the neighborhood on the radiators of the cars and trucks there. They wouldn't be broken by the mail service that way and the people who own the vehicles would only have to know what you are trying to do for you to get permission to retrieve them. Good luck.

Bay City, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh geesh, i had three huge moths at the other house, they were drying their wings(very pretty colors). I think something ate one of them, just found one wing, lol How ever i do have some glue & gold macaw feathers if you can use them?? Just let me know?

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

that would work too tootsie. I would love to have them :)

Bremerton, WA(Zone 8b)

Hi Flowox...I lost this thread...forgot to mark it. I just read your request for hair post too!

I have 3 nice sized dragonflys...wings about 2" long... Will these be big enough for your fairies? If so, I'd be happy to send them.

My DH has hair to the middle of his back...wavy hair, he ask me to cut about 4-6 inches off this week-end for him. Do you still need hair? If so, I'll add that too... hee hee! This is a pretty cool way to recycle...usually goes into the mulch pile or garden to decompose...having them incorporated into an artistic creation is even better.

WaWild1

ps: I'm tracking this now, so I won't lose it again..lol

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I would love to have his hair and the wings both :)
Do you need my addy?

Thanks bunches!!!!

if anyone finds lotus bugs, they have some awesome wings that can be used too but haven't had any luck finding any here........maybe when I go to TN

Bremerton, WA(Zone 8b)

Flowox...i have your addy from the Sunflower seed post. I'll try to get them out first thing next week. Did you receive your sunflower seeds yet? I have not heard from anyone...I sure hope they are not lost somewhere.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

no, haven't gotten the sunflower seeds yet. Did you get yours that I mailed?

Bremerton, WA(Zone 8b)

Yes, and others too..OMG, they should have been to everyone by now. I'm sending them all out again today...driving to town to post them this time. Please let me know when you receive them...I'm sooo sorry they did not arrive..Patti

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I'm glad that you got them :)
No sunflowers here yet.......lol
No rush as I'll be leaving next week anyway and won't get them started until late :)

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

I have a number of moth wings, though not nearly as colorful as butterflies, some are quite nice. Darned things are attracted to my dusk to dawn light, so when daylight arrives the blackbirds have a feast. I even had a young bird trying to feed on them at midnight last week, but it kept hitting the house, and falling to the ground. Silly bird couldn't see to fly in that light.
Anyway....the moth wings are here, so if you can use them, let me know. It will just cost you a photo of a finished product. ;-)
Julie

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Julie, that would be wonderful and a photo will be yours :)
I'll send you my mom's addy as I'll be there really soon and will work on fairies at her house.
Thanks bunches!!!
